To be honest I think we're seriously overestimating the demand for many CL Group Matches, especially amongst the high pointers.Does anyone know why our allcation is only 1100 when it used to be 2300+?
Firstly the new format has created more fixtures and diluted their individual importance.
Look no further than last season when we failed to reach the Last 16, but only played 3 games less than when we won the trophy
We sold out for Bratislava and maybe Paris, but struggled with the others.
Secondly the first two away fixtures are relatively awkward locations, and given the absence of official/unofficial trips (apart from someone admirably running a coach from Benidorm to Villarreal) there won't be that many supporters doing both games.
Thirdly, the high pointers are an ageing demographic and whilst our lowest PL ticket allocation (Bournemouth) will sellout around 28k many of those supporters probably travelled to Spain in 2011 and aren't as keen for the hassle of a repeat trip to Villarreal or indeed our 7th trip to the Bernabeau.
Also, the ridiculous and unnecessary long-winded ticket process means that the high pointers have 4-5 days to either choose or decline the option to buy a ticket
Eventually (when it's almost too late) a revised criteria is announced and supporters down the pecking order suddenly find themselves eligible for a ticket.
By all means, have a priority queuing system,. but make the whole process slicker.
Otherwise we'll start to struggle to shift more than 1200
