ID cards.

As I said above then. That’s even less of a justification - we all have NI numbers, visas or passport etc

If you don’t have that now and are still working then your employer already knows so is taking the chance. Why would an ID card change that?

Again, like I said. I don’t really have a position either way, it just seems a strange thing for an unpopular government to attempt to being in
No photos on NI card and not everyone has a passport

Seems like a sledge hammer to crack a nut scenario

I don’t really have a view on ID cards one way or another but it seems tone deaf from a political standpoint for a government that people don’t seem to to like

I’m similar. Don’t have any issues with having a national id system, but cannot see it having any effect on small boat crossings or those working illegally.

100% particularly as Farage’s response will simply be - these boat crossings won’t be happening in the first place so no need to impose ID cards on the population

These ID cards would only work in a cashless society. Any one working cash in hand now will still work cash in hand with an ID card. My worry is will you have to start scanning the ID card at tills, or even scan in before you go in the co-op etc, scan to get in the library, police stop you in the street and demand to see your ID. The gradual erosion of our freedoms it could lead to further down the line.

I'm sorry but anybody who listens to this interview and isn't worried is beyond help. Who the fuck do this government think they are? Both my grandparents fought in WW11 for freedom. This certainly isn't freedom, it's totalitarian dictatorship. Has she thought for one minute what happens if millions don't comply? Companies can't employ them? The country grinds to a halt.

Campaigned against Thatcher's ID card scheme in football on the 80s and I am totally against them being introduced generally. What are we becoming as a nation?

It's bad enough that the spectre of a far right government in 4 years time looms over us, yet Starmer is trying an unnecessary authoritarian policy like this. It won't work is open to abuse, such as hacking and fraud as well as by authoritarian governments.

It's a big NO from me.

Well said. Indeed people didn't fight for our freedom for this.

You've got it Dicko and trust me a cashless society is next on the agenda, followed by the digital.pound then your digital carbon footprint. Why do you think they pushed so hard for everyone to have a smart meter? Eventually the temperature in your home will be controlled by the government, to save fuel and the planet of course. Listen to Nandy in the interview I'm going to post. It's terrifying but hey what's to fear eh?
It will be even worse if Farage gets in.

That's where I'm at. It's a slippery slope, the next generation are going to reap what is being sewn now.

I think you’re reading too much into this

Nah I can see that. Imagine we had them during covid with people hording certain items at the shops. Some genius in govn would have linked purchases to IDs, restrictions on what we buy.

Or being stopped in the street by the police to make sure you have had you covid jab and are therefore allowed to be where you are. That check is a criminal check, where it didn't exist before.

Just don't see it going down those roads
