26 | Savinho - 2025/26

Terribly lazy off the ball. That's my main issue with him. Effort doesn't require form.

Still think we need to see him fully fit to really judge that. He's coming back from an injury and has played two games in a week. He didn't seem lazy at the start of last season and they all seemed tired by the end of it. Plus if he gets praise from Pep then maybe he's under instruction to track back less so he can be the out ball.

With Doku in full flow there's definitely the opportunity for Sav or Bobb (or possibly Cherki) to take up a really creative role in space on the right - especially if Khus is doing all the defending behind them or Nunes is outside them, depending on the game.

I think he definitely has enough pace as in his burst of pace to play his way. He’s got similar technique to Mahrez and is much quicker. Granted Mahrez’s shooting was on a different level but i fully expect his shooting to improve. Got time on his side to fulfill his potential but needs a run and people to get off his back. He played alright yesterday in a first half when our only very good player was Doku. He was getting slated on here though.
I do think a lot of the doubters will be eating humble pie. He's got all the tools and it's just a case of putting it together on a consistent basis. He will come good.

Time to end the debate Savinho v Doku.
Needs offloading.
There is no debate. They’re both City players and we shouldn’t be pitting them against each other like YouTubers do.

One is two years older and has one year more experience of PL+CL football than the other. Yet he was still shite 5 out of every 6 games he played for us until this month.

Let’s see how good Savinho is at 23.

Hopefully by the time Savinho is 23 he’ll be class and Doku will be twice as good as he is now by 25.

Don't have to be a YouTuber, just use your eyes.

Savinho won't be here at 23.

Yes Doku is 23 in his 3rd season Savinho 21 ijust starting his second season he has time and age to do what Doku is doing this season no rush.
Savinho coming back from injury too. Some players aren't up to scratch yet, Savinho being one and Ake an obvious other. Plus he's a young kid settling in . I thought he was our best player or one of when the chips were down and we were struggling through the winter last season. I think he's got more substance than people give him credit for

Pep was praising him in his presser the other day saying that he knows Savinho is 'too hectic in the right moment' but he will make the step and it will come. Goes on to say Savinho will be a top player for City. That will do for me for now. We just need to be patient with him at the moment.

City Xtra have the clip from the presser here, his comments on Savinho are 4:20 in:

He definitely can be top

He just needs to work on his decision making. These things can be practiced and improved. Doku seems to be.

I've always felt with Savinho and Doku that their training and coaching should be pretty much focus on improving that. Their ability to dribble and shift with the ball is as good as it'll ever need to be, that ability isn't going away. So if they really wanna knuckle down and work on the rest, they can be great players.
.
It's up to Savinho. It's all their for him if he wants to put the work in.

I get that he's not match fit yet but IMO he was poor off the ball last year. Can't or won't press at all. Doesn't close on crosses. Doesn't play thru contact. I'm not trying to rip him. Just my honest observations.

There's the strong probability he will be here.
However we are in a good position, having several youngsters, who will compete with each other.
Loads of lads coming through, some currently on loan and competition from Bobb and fall backs in Cherki and Bernardo who can step in.
I think Pep will give him enough time to prove himself.
Savinho and Bobb wil fight it out this season but I doubt we will see both if them here next season.

Any chance this contract is being pushed by Soriano? CFG being his idea an all and Savinho coming through multiple CFG clubs…

Reminds me of Vini before he took that step up to a world class player. What Savinho is doing now is similar to what Vini Jr was doing before it clicked.

Vini could beat his man but panicked in front of goal.

Funnily enough I had that same thought - Savio being the poster boy for the CFG pathway

But I think it’s a stretch. I don’t think they are signing players on long contracts for the sake of PR if Pep doesn’t want them. Pep thinks there is a player there. Maybe there is, maybe there isn’t, I suppose we’ll find out in the next 12 months or so

Savinho is a confusing one. He's still only 21, clearly has all the foundations to go all the way, but at the same time his finishing, final pass and off-the-ball contributions could all be a lot better. Part of me wanted to cash in on him in the summer for the 60m quoted and pave the way for Bobb and Cherki to play more, but part of me also thinks he could be world-class one day. I guess we'll just have to wait and see
