In soccer, a raised foot near the head is a foul called "playing in a dangerous manner" or, more colloquially, a "high boot". A referee can call this foul even if no contact is made, as the action itself is a threat to a player's safety.


For those confused by the rules

Just to clarify though - if there is no contact but it's still considered dangerous play, then it is an indirect free kick not a penalty.

And I'm not convinced he even touches him.

Tijjani, Foden, Bernardo & Savio are not really creating enough.

Foden was pretty good ,he needs to improve his passing for sure ,but agree about the rest.

I would be too, bernardo multiple times ruined counters and couldn't even get close to landing it close to haaland. Why he stayed on is beyond me and why doku was taken off. Imagine switching him to the right with all that space

Buy 2 fullbacks who can defend, a midfield animal, and a right winger who can cross, get rid rid of Savinho, Lewis & Nunes and move on.

Shouldn't be a penalty when the players gets the ball, but we deserved to throw it away the way we played.

The subs weren't bad, half of them were to rest tired legs. We just dont have a deep squad with the current injuries.

If Marmoush, Cherki and Ait-Nouri are options it's a lot rosier.

Add to that the bench is poor, I’m praying we are two up with 20 to go, as a buffer.

Agree. It will hopefully improve when players come back but the fact we don’t have one proper right back in the squad is frankly a fucking joke.

Now I’ve had time to calm down a bit, we played okay. Decent passing and ball retention. The huge issue is other players putting the ball in the back of the net. We cannot just rely on Erling to score 95% of our goals. Others simply have to step up. Bernardo at the end turning back instead of playing it forward on the counter is horrendous decision making.

Just leave it on the off chance?

It's a bollocks rule......how about not endangering yourself when your opponent doesn't have eyes in the back of his head.

Hit the bar twice. Limited their chances. Conceded from an unstoppable long range goal and a bent penalty.

We weren’t perfect by any stretch, should have killed that off second half and Peps changes left a lot to be desired. Bernardo playing the 90 was mind boggling.

But we were fine overall. We’re still in a good place going forward. The result stings more simply because of the complete and utter inept officiating rather than anything we did or didn’t do. Frustrating but on to the next one

The ref will simply view the incident and decide that if Dier could go for the ball with his head, then Gonzales could have done the same thing ..... he was always going to give the penalty.
