AS Monaco (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

This Monaco team got beaten 4-1 by Brugge. Terrible point and this was one of the weakest teams we played. Only harder games from now on bar Bodo.
Bodo have a good record at home on their astroturf. We’ve managed four points and were very close to six.

We need more pace in the side.

Just to clarify though - if there is no contact but it's still considered dangerous play, then it is an indirect free kick not a penalty.

And I'm not convinced he even touches him.
I thought he did. But im not absolutely certain

Calming down a bit now ha! Let's be fair though we miss Kusanov mainly for his pace because that makes a huge difference to how we defend as a team - Ruben and John have lost so much pace it's a bit of a worry. Having pace also stops the quick transitions - too many times in that second half we let them rush down our right side at will and then didn't have the ability or pace to utilise the space behind that when they lost the ball.

Then further up without Cherki and to an extent Marmoush to come on and press our right side attacking is pedestrian and our weak link in creative terms. Tonight we relied too much on Phil who was ok but his final pass was a little off, especially to Erling who hardly had a pass played to him - crazy because Dier is shit and we didn't capitalise on that enough.

All will be better when those 3 are fit - assuming of course Pep picks them.

Raise your boot at head height like that in the CL and it’s a penalty every time.

It was brainless play by Nico.
Ok. What is he supposed to do to defend it then? If Dier is there first then I agree. The replays show he clearly wasn’t. If Dier bumps into his boot five seconds after the ball is gone what do you call?

“In the CL . . .” — what does that have to do with anything?

It’s a terrible, incorrect call. I’d say this regardless of who is playing.

Of course it was.

As Haaland just said in his interview, kick someone in the face and it’s a penalty.

It was idiotic.
Haaland also said he hadn’t seen it, maybe if he had the benefit of the VAR video he’s be more pissed off
It was head to shin he didn’t kick Dyer in the face which was clearly seen on the VAR video

Collectively we must have the slowest defence in the champions league?

Generally for me, the fitness of the team hasn’t been right for a few seasons, too many games we completely run out of steam.

Add to that the bench is poor, I’m praying we are two up with 20 to go, as a buffer.
yeah , it is weird ,our pressing also isn´t anywhere near as good and effective as it used to be at our peak.

A reminder, if anyone needed one, that to win the CL you don't just need to be a brilliant team, you need to be on UEFA's nice list.

Or be called Real Madrid.

I would be too, bernardo multiple times ruined counters and couldn't even get close to landing it close to haaland. Why he stayed on is beyond me and why doku was taken off. Imagine switching him to the right with all that space
Doku was bobbins, our wide options are a complete joke.

In soccer, a raised foot near the head is a foul called "playing in a dangerous manner" or, more colloquially, a "high boot". A referee can call this foul even if no contact is made, as the action itself is a threat to a player's safety.

For those confused by the rules
Enlighten me. Is soccer the same as football?

Like in seasons previous, if we are not 2 goals to the good the opposition become 12 players, yes you ref

Sideways, backwards, slow, shite, trying to protect 1-2 lead.
Fuckoff, what do you want them to do up 2-1? They had two shots cannon off the bar. Monaco even down still were defending in the low block, had Reijnder scored that, you wouldn’t have been complaining about the possession game which is something this team has always done. I’m not letting you fakes breath anymore in this forum. All you guys want to do is complain and complain.

Erling is right. Very honest and very tactful about the penalty.

Peps subs were baffling.
Doku has a history of muscular injuries and has rarely played 3 games a week for us. Rodri is coming back from a long term injury. Stones is made of glass. Tell me why taking those three off for Savinho, Nico and Nunes is baffling?
