11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

Looks like he's really kicked on this season
Great to see.

This is the reason fans need to give Savinho a chance and have patience. Doku is a couple of years older than him and is only really just starting to look like a very good and consistent player rather than just a potentially very good player.

Obviously Doku has to keep it going. That's what separates top class players from the rest. It's up to him. He can be a real top tier player if he wants to keep working at it.
Savinho needs to toughen up, he's too accepting of losing duels and being hesitant. Doku has never suffered from this and is why I was always happy to even have him as an impact sub if his final product never improved. Savinho struggles to get himself involved because he is so timid. It's a mindset for him plus he is also pretty wasteful whilst doku only had the latter and that's slowly improving so doku looks like he could be elite fairly soon.

The players call him Rude Dog in training / behind the scenes.

Maybe we need to rename the thread since he’s proving to be a cool customer at the moment.

Confidence, consistency, experience and tactical adjustments. It will be so funny when some time down the line I return to those posts that mocked me for "seeing something that doesn't exist".

It’s about two things this season: being impactful on a consistent basis across the full season, and improving his defensive play.

Quiet tonight but credit in the bank this season, hopefully see him back on fire for brentford

Seems like he got himself a bit isolated again last night. Better when we actually have some threat on the other flank as he gets more space. Not really his fault, I'd leave him in the team for Brentford definitely.

Always going to be harder when the right side is dead.

Actually I thought Rodri and Dias were really poor in terms of picking him out. Both of them took the safe option over and over again when passing, which was more often than not sideways to Berardo or Foden. Almost impossible to make an impact against such a low block if you're not getting the ball.

I'm glad Pep subbed him as we need him for Sunday. Savinho was poor when he came on. Can't get Marmoush back soon enough IMO.

He had two players on him from the end of the line, and the third right-back was waiting for him just behind the two outside defenders. They understood he was the number one threat, and, with the right flank dead, Monaco's weak five-man defense crept towards Doku and managed to cut off any connection with Haaland. He made two runs and demanded the ball deep inside, but he wasn't served by Rodri, who was average yesterday.

The excessive over-responsibility of Doku and the left flank is starting to show. The opponents are watching him, and that's not a solution; we'll have to vary our attacking style.

I'd suggest some people cannot understand very simple tactics if they're criticising Doku after last night. The gameplan wasn't for him to be the focal point of our attack, as it often is, all wide men, him, then savinho and bernardo on the other flank had simple roles of maintaining width and recycling to help open up gaps. our entire plan was to go through the middle so it's understandable he was quiet along with all other wide men.
We saw a role reversal of our attack against arsenal. Foden's role in that game was a supporting role, he wasn't set up to shine and he didnt, he did what was asked of him fine and doku and haaland did the damage. Yesterday was set up for Foden to shine and he did with the wingers doing what was asked of them.

I agree that we all too often rely way too much on doku to create something out of nothing and we need more variety but I think that's what we got yesterday, we switched it up and went for a different approach and it proved successful first half. The problems came in 2nd half when they closed the gaps that gave us joy 1st half and pep didnt have us switch the plan at any point, he should have made better use of the wingers second half.
