Stones shouldn't play for England until the World Cup | Called up again (pg13)

If it is a proper injury and not an "international injury", I think he might just have shot himself in the foot of any possible contract extension.

He should have known better than to take liberties with his body thinking that he can just go back to playing 3 games a week after such a tumultuous last couple of years with injuries.

I accept that players want to play for their countries but it is short-sighted imo, especially with his history of injuries and because the club who plays his considerable salary suffers not only potential injury but fatigue from over-playng.

Tuchel may be different in that respect, but Southgate didn't seem to show the same consideration.

I am sure that City try to manage his conditions to the best of their ability, but lose control when in the hands of the international set-up whose priorities are not the same as the clubs.

If Stones wishes to extend his playing career, retiring from international football would appear to be the sensible decision imho.

You make it sound like you think he got injured on purpose. He's also not played 3 games a week so I don't know where you've dragged that up from.

Tuchel said he was going to play against Andorra tonight, Serbia as a 6 on Tuesday and from there he would have played against United next Sunday.

Then Napoli and Arsenal in the space of another week.

He hasn't turned up for England duty and got injured, he turned up as expected, told Tuchel he's not 100%, and he's been sent home, as we are playing Andorra H, and Serbia A. He hasn't travelled anywhere other than Burton on Trent in his own car, and then gone home again.

The real point here is that he will have best part of 2 weeks off, looking after his fitness before our next game.

Hey ho, but let the drama queens be overly dramatic, because there's no actual football to be dramatic about.

Possible contract extension?

No City players in the England team and only James Trafford in the squad. I’m sure we have had 6/11 players on the pitch in games in the last 15 years.

Apparently in training he put in a great block which saved a goal causing applause from the manager and staff.

So he did more than rock up and then leave. He trained. Now whether the injury was related to the training who knows.

Where did you read this? The impression given was that he turned up with a slight injury so was sent home

He was training with England for a number of days. His injury problems are significant for us because of his importance to the side. He is our best central defender and he's adept at stepping into midfield.

If he hadn't been selected for England, he'd still have been "training" with City in the interim, they w.ouldn't have given him 2 weeks off

Tuchel said he arrived with an issue they hoped would improve, it hadn't so he was sent back to City (where our medical team will know more about it anyway).

There was reports how good he was in training for England making a block

He may well have been carrying an injury and now it has worsened following training.

He may have a special training at City that reduces the chances of a setback

All we know is he has had long lay offs following international breaks

Well in this instance you must be wrong because @jimharri is never wrong.....unless of course he was saying anything detrimental about John Stones!!

I'm not having a good week, my brother died yesterday so please people do not upset me over Johnny Boy because that might just bring on a meltdown of epic proportions. I don't mean a crying one but an ANGRY one. ;-) :-)

John will be all right for the Derby, he has probably told Mr Tuchel or whatever his name is, that he wants to be sure that he is recovered and 100% fit so that he can show everyone just how we beat Stretford United. :-)
Oh pet so sorry to hear of your sad loss. Thinking of you and you take care.
Love.
Oakie xx
