Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Big win at a tough ground to go to.

First time they've lost at home this season, first time they haven't scored this season.

Great 1st half, 2nd half the less said the better.

Need to learn to get out of sight when we're on top in games.
Oh right. Not bad then to keep a clean sheet against them.

We can criticise the second half performance, but I would labour the fact that having played Brighton away, Arsenal away, United and Spurs in the first 7 games... only being 3 points off top is a position I would have taken at the start of the season.

But if you're going to do that, you have to also look at ehat the rest have played too. Arsenal have played Liverpool away, newcastle away, united away, city and forest at home.

That is a much, much tougher set of fixtures than what we have had.

Please, do us a favour and nobody claim "that's what champions do"....
Great 1st half but again, a 2nd half with nothing offered upfront.
Savinho has a dreadful mentality, weak, more intent on claiming non-existent fouls than getting on with the game
Good from O'Reilly, Nunes, Dias, GK and Big Erl
Need a lot more from midfield to really challenge for the title
Take all that on board - and I, like most, am hoping Rodri is back before Christmas!!
We do have Marmoush and Cherki to come in though which I reckon turns today from 0-1 at h/t to 0-2 at least. If we have those 2 Sav doesn't get in the starting line-up for me

First off, I have to say that I did not see the first half. So I missed the “good” City.
On the second half, I can only call it as I see it: I thought we were acceptable at best, plummeting right down to shite. There was one awful period of about fifteen minutes when we were losing every — and I mean every — second and third ball to Brentford, who just looked as though they wanted it so much more. Compounded by “clearances” from the box that would go straight to a Brentford player. Quite often along the floor, which is the most dangerous kind of clearance to make, unless you're clearly making a pass and picking out one of your own.
But what really enrages me is this: at no point in the second half was there any visible intent to score that second goal from the team, with the possible exception of Haaland. So it ended up that we were playing with fire. Those long throws-in were giving me kittens, especially after the Gvardiol fuck-up early in the second half, where Donnarumma, bless him, saved our bacon. Gvardiol at that point (otherwise not a particularly bad game) brought back to me the nightmare of Joleon, 13th May, 2012; and Donnarumma, making himself so big, brought back the finest memories of Joe during that season when he was at his best.
Well, I take the three points and run. Not an enjoyable half of football. I console myself with the fact that nobody looks particularly solid. Arsenal's season, probably, because they're so very difficult to score against. We move on.

We were awful. The result should not disguise that fact.

Haaland was good to be fair but our playing style is as bad as ever. Possession without threat 1st half. Scared shitless second half.

Lucky to coming away with any points, not to mind 3

First half we were good and crafted some great opportunities, could easily have gone in at H/T 2 up at least.

Second half we dropped off but defended well.

Sav with his usual anonymous performance stayed on far too long but apart from that, a 1 nil away at Brentford is decent.

The travelling Blues were loud and proud and helped us to a deserved win.

A great finish from Erling and Ruben Dias had his best game in 18 months. We suffered in the second half but credit to the lads for getting over the line.

Shame about Rodri but Pep will have more options after the international break when other Blues return from injury.

Unfortunately, City's level is not reassuring. In the first half, we performed well and wasted opportunities, but we came out ahead with a goal from Haaland. However, in the second half, as usual, our performance declined, and we were no longer able to move the ball well into the final third of the opponent's field. Savinho's performance was negative and he did not make a real contribution, and the same applies to Nico Gonzalez.
Bob as well second half.
Might move Nunez wide right in a tight game with Rico at right back.

Good thing about our position now is that everyone below us has played the same number of games!
