Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Wonder how Pep approaches the midfield for the next couple months. Figure Rodri will have his minutes managed a little more after this latest tweak and there are big PL games that we probably need him for in late October/November. Gonzalez is more than capable enough to handle all PL/CL games as the 6 besides Villa, Liverpool, Newcastle, but he’ll need rest himself. Reijnders and Foden have played loads already but they do still need to play together more so Reijnders can pick up the pace of the league and Foden can keep feeding Haaland. Kovacic is fit again but he needs time to get match sharpness.

Was at a loose end for a few minutes, so I thought I'd see where the bald frau Pep ranked among our list of managers (Christ, it's a long list!) in terms of longevity. Given our penchant for hiring and firing managers in the past, I'd have thought that this being his tenth season with us, he'd be at the top of the list. Nah; he's only the fourth longest....

Wilf Wild 14 years
Les McDowall 13 years
Ernest Mangnall 12 years

What's the chances of him catching up on any of those three?

Personally I think he'll see out this decade.

tbh i wasn't aware Carles Planchart had left at the end of last season.

It happens like clockwork every year. I went looking for a game from early in the 20/21 season a while back ti prove a point in some random argument. It was a game from before we turned things around and people were ready to throw him off a bridge.

Enjoy.

I can tell you the moment many on here gave up on Pep: the consecutive draws vs United away and WBA home in December 2020. Look at his thread from that period (mid-December).

Then we won 21 games in a row in all competitions.

Oh dear.

On page two the same guy calling for Pep's head last year is calling for his head back in 2020.

Interesting that his own former staff member seems to think Pep has stayed too long.

I've stumbled across the information that Pep is exactly 50 games away from becoming the manger with the most games in City's history. So I've tried to work out what's needed for him to reach this achievement this season, in his 10th in charge:

There are a guaranteed 31 league games left, 6 Champions League group games, 1 League Cup game, 1 FA Cup game and an additional 2 Champions League games assuming we make the cut in the group. That comes to a total of 41 games so 9 short.

A run to the League Cup final would be 4 more games.

A run to the FA Cup final would be another 5 games.

A run to the Champions League QF would be an additional 2 or 4 games depending on whether we qualify top 8 of the league phase.

All in all, I think he's got a 50:50 chance of making it, and as much as it would pain me, if he can win a big trophy (League, CL or FA Cup) in the process then I can't think of a more poetic way for him to end his time at the club and bow out on his 10th year anniversary.

if he doesn’t this season then he has next season what’s the big deal.

Pep ‘I am not going anywhere. I am not moving from this seat’
He’s going to be drawing his pension from Ashton New Road post office he’s going to stay that long.
Things you love to see (and hear)
