QUESTION TIME
Farage shouts 2.2 million arrivals in two years. Sounds massive, doesn’t it?
Q. How many of those are students?
A. About 840,000. Paying sky high fees, rent, food, bus passes. If anything they keep our universities alive and subsidise the rest of us. (840,000)
Q. How many are in legal work, paying tax?
A. Roughly 1.1 million. A big slice in the NHS and care homes. Without them our hospitals and care services shut tomorrow. (~1,100,000)
Q. How many are children, parents, or pensioners legally here but not in the labour market?
A. About 350,000. The kids of workers, the mums looking after them, the grandparents who came to join family. (350,000)
Q. How many are refugees escaping wars and persecution?
A. Around 110,000. Kurds, Afghans, Syrians, Sudanese. People who have lost everything and come here for safety. (110,000)
Q. So where is this tidal wave of illegals he bangs on about?
A. It is not there. What is left is a small slice, car washes, nail bars, cash in hand jobs. Nobody knows the exact figure, because those numbers do not exist.
And here is the killer question for Mr Farage. Where does our little ray of sunshine get his numbers from? I have done deep searches and there are no official stats out there. He throws out a big number, never breaks it down, and lets people imagine it is all boat people.
The truth is plain. Half are working and paying in, a third are students paying through the nose, the rest are children, family or refugees. Only a tiny uncounted fraction are the illegals he wants you to picture.
So when you hear 2.2 million, have a laugh and order another pint. It is not an invasion, it is just life.
And speaking of life, I am off to my Kurdish barber, hot towels, a cut throat shave.
I trust him with a razor at my neck, which is more than I would ever trust Farage with the numbers.
It's nearly an hour long, but it's well worth a watch if, like me, you are getting fed up with the bullshit from the far right.

Rupert gets his dig in

There is definitely a pro Russian strand running through Reform, both in terms of the leadership, but also its supporters which is frequently borne out by polling. I think the former will be driven by finance, the latter by targeted propaganda.

There are many reasons to fear a Reform government, and this is definitely one of them.

Johnson was controlled by the Russians.

It seems Starmer is being controlled by Israel.

Any leaders not controlled by a foreign nation?

So much for sovereignty.

Individuals maybe, but not the state, at least not after the invasion. **** though he was, he was unwavering in his support of Ukraine.
Also wouldn’t say Starmer is controlled by Israel, too timid and over pragmatic trying to remain close to Trump on it, but anyone controlled wouldn’t have recognised Palestine, in support of the 2 state solution.

Reform UK’s deputy leader, Richard Tice, said key election pledges such as lifting the income tax threshold would be an ‘aspiration’.

Reform is all over the place, so now they're Christian nationalists?

My beloved MP. I had a letter the other day explaining why he had deserted to Reform. In it was 2 nd class envelope should I decide to donate to Reform having filled in the enclosed begging form. The envelope was returned to them with a far from complementary note inside.

Is that Richard Tice, who doesn't know Nathan Gill, the former leader of Reform in Wales, who has now pled guilty to charges of receiving bribes from Russia?

Still no positive comments from their new supporters on here defending their policy U turns? Thought not.

Far right parties always follow the same pattern, they come to prominence peddling a grievance, so they collect lots of pissed off folk, but beyond the grievance they don't have much else, no structure, no policies worth shit beyond soundbites about how pissed off they are about, in this case immigrants. Beyond riding the immigrant hate they're completely at sea on the bread and butter stuff, beyond slash and burn. They get away with it for a time, but they won't in the long three and a half years between now and the next election.

What's really going on now is a turf war, they say they want to replace the Conservatives, but what they really want is to take them over, name intact, structure in place, list of donors and whatnot, because despite saying they're a political party, they're not, they're really gangsters, they need to pull off a heist, a hostile takeover of the old firm so they can walk in and make it their own.

Unfortunately for Reform but fortunately for the rest of us, they're not alone on the right wing fringe, they've got Robinson and Habib and the flag lads to contend with. It's early days yet, but if these factions ever come together and manage to nail a sign on the Tories that reads "Under New Management" that's when I'll get worried.

Perversely we should all be praying for a mini Tory revival, that way these fuckers will spend years in the wilderness pissing on each others shoes.

Honestly surprised they're admitting they're economically clueless before getting into office.

Thought they'd be promising the world to voters, a 'whatever it takes to get in' type attitude.

Suppose they'll just blame immigrants for everything and hope to dupe enough people that way.
