Just Never Gets Old...

One of the many anecdotal memories from that day and then that moment was the MSM/national press pack reaction after Sergio had scored.

Sat (stood!) immediately in front of their section (ie pre tunnel club days), as I looked around me once the initial whip-crack of sound and shock and euphoria started to subside a little, every single one of them had a face like a smacked arse.

With just one exception. A big, beaming, laughing smiling face. Can you guess who?
Ian Cheesman ?

I was always weirdly confident even 2-1 down. I had a feeling we were going to win it in a way that mirrored the Gillingham game. I even went for a fag on 85 minutes and said to my Dad we'll equalise when I get back to the top of the stairs, and I timed it exactly right, the corner looped over to Edin just as I got back in view of the pitch. From then I just knew it was going to happen.

Doesn't even bear thinking about what it would have been like if we'd fucked it up. Don't think I'd have been able to stop myself diving headfirst off the top of the spirals to be honest.

I never lost hope, I've always been that way with City. It was all we fucking had for a long time after all! But I don't think I truly believed we would do it, and my mind was in a pretty dark place thinking about how cruel it was for us to wrestle the title in our favour with the rag slip up to Everton and Wigan was it? And our win in the derby....only to lose it in what was a game on paper we should have won comfortably and against so many former City players too!

Kenny was pretty good in goal all afternoon as well, other than the Zabba goal arguably! Felt like it was karma for singing "she's here, she's there, she's every fucking where, Kenny's wife" at Sheffield united years before - although again, karma was served by that fucking balloon goal and the defeat if I'm remembering the right trip to Brammall Lane!
