The FOC thread.

When did it stop being applied in decimals - some of us whipper-snappers never had the pleasure......... :-)
In case you’re not on the WUM, decimal currency came to the UK on 15th February 1971.

Therefore, you have to be at least in your early 60s to remember pounds, shillings and pence.

Honestly wasn't Vienna (maybe the Grandpa bit ;-) ) - that's 15 years before I entered the atmosphere.............

Well, what the fuck are you doing in this thread?

;-)

Bloody kids!

The Gramps bit is fine, as that’s what my grandchildren call me.

Genuine question for everyone but when did you last feel good about the world, honestly I’m struggling to remember with all the shit that’s going on, I reckon the early 2000s upto say the financial crash. After that it’s been a fucking shit show, every fucker seems to be only out for themselves, money is short everything is so expensive.

Late '89 to mid 90s.

All the revolutions in Eastern Europe removing the communist dictatorships like a domino effect.

One after another.

You're not alone - I remember a particularly depressing moment when my mum - probably around 75 at the time - was visiting and the news headlines came on.

Rapists, murderers, drug gangs and a particularly horrible case of an acid attack. Without looking at us, almost just thinking aloud, we heard her say "I don't like the world anymore".

It was as though she'd made some sort of decision and from that point she went downhill. At that stage, she'd still been coming on 3-mile walks along the shore, fit as a fiddle.

Every time that the headlines are just one bad news story after another (more and more regularly, of course) it still hits hard.

Sorry to drone on - it's just this thread, some days...

Haven’t watched a news programme or politics programme since Covid.

Lot of bad shit in the world, very little of which affects me.

Meanwhile I have a lovely two year old granchild who fills my days with joy, my eldest has just bought a flat in Manhattan meaning all my kids now own their own properties, my beautiful wife enjoys good health, we are healthy and wealthy enough to travel often and I’ve just won a four ball stableford at golf and my BP meds work.

Just don’t let it get to you.

my grandparents owned one of them. I think it may have been broken as I remember we would often go around and one of them would be stood on a chair stuffing down clothes with a broom handle while it was spinning around.

the one to they had a mangle attached. Pretty sure it wasn't a design feature but something my grandad had made and stuck on.
