I don’t know what we are doing on the ground in Israel. I can only guess bomb disposal or clearing rubble ? we should be observing the ceasefire in Gaza which seems to be holding:)
 
It's been over a century in the planning. Compare the Balfour Declaration (1917) on a national home in Palestine for the Jewish people "it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine" with what Balfour wrote two years later (in the context of duplicity in promising irreconcilable things to different people):

"For in Palestine we do not propose even to go through the form of consulting the wishes of the present inhabitants of the country, though the American Commission has been going through the form of asking what they are. The four Great Powers are committed to Zionism. And Zionism, be it right or wrong, good or bad, is rooted in age-long traditions, in present needs, in future hopes, of far profounder import than the desires and prejudices of the 700,000 Arabs who now inhabit that ancient land."

Now does that sound like it was right or wrong? Britain's policy was always a bit genocidal.

Shlomo Sand's book "The Invention of the Land of Israel" (2012) is a fascinating work. As an Israeli soldier in 1967 he recounts how an old Arab man tried to return to his home and his comrades tortured and murdered him. And that his comrades did not see occupation as trespass but going into land that belonged to them. After that he deconstructs the myths of the scriptures (such as Deuteronomy 7 - destroy the enemy peoples completely - but then don't intermarry with the people you've destroyed). He reckons the "exile" / diaspora of the Palestinian Jews in the first century AD didn't happen - and that Ben Gurion wrote in 1917 about "The Origins of the Fellahs" suggesting that most of Palestine's "local peasants" were the "authentic offspring of the ancient Hebrews".
