Why does the EFL (Carabao Cup) and FA Cup reward the winners so little money?

Just read that the winners of the EFL Cup only make '£100k', and the FA Cup Winners make '£2 Million'. That's nothing though nowadays in the grand scheme of things.

How long 'Riyahd Season, Saudi Arabia' starting putting up £10 Million for the winner for Sponsorship?

Sponsorship deals are a lot less in those competitions. The FA also wanting to keep the 'tradition' of the FA Cup put in strict rules about where the sponsorship is allowed, which probably hampers them too.
It's also why teams who are fighting to win titles or avoid relegation field so called weakened teams. You get far more money for finishing 6th than for winning the FA cup.
They need to update or die.

Everyone, the EFL included are on a campaign to scrap the League Cup.
We also have Prick Parry in charge of the EFL and we all know what his aim is, make everything easy for Liverpool whilst making his mates at Sky TV rich.

The FA are on autopilot, seriously do they do anything? I’m convinced that you can go to the FA’s HQ on any given day and there will be no one there except the accountant who has to process all the expenses claims, although at this point I’m sure all the major players just have a credit card that has direct debit linked to it.

Surprised the EFL prize money is so small. To the big clubs in the PL, it's almost literally worthless. We probably spend more than that on staples. That's not taking the piss, by the way. It's just a fact. I'm assuming there's some clause that clubs can't opt out of the competition. Because I'd guess that, if they could, they would.

I even think the prize of winning the cups is 2nd to the dream of playing a Wembley Final and the day out

Yes, sponsorship and money are a big part of winning the cups, but you need the FA Cup and League Cup trophies because that's the history and how many hands have lifted them,

Money, that is modern-day football, HOW MUCH can we generate and how many clubs can be winners for doing so little or winning nothing, What is it now, the top 5 Champions League clubs places and Europe League, Conference League places all generate more money than the biggest and oldest trophy. the FA Cup

Why do the big clubs even bother playing in them was a question not so long ago ? United and Arsenal used to play the youth teams. United even pulled off the FA cup to play the World Club trophy

It's a little better now with the big clubs needing silverware to keep the fans on their side and happy. Dare I say some managers' jobs are based on winning silverware

I’m sure the prize money is greater for winning your 3rd round FA Cup tie, than it is for winning the Carabao final itself.

In other words, both are poor relations of the PL and UCL, but the League Cup is absolute crumbs even just in relation to the FA Cup.

I'm no fan of the league Cup. I say every year its good for 1 or 2 rounds to give the fringe players a run out but I always think it best we get out before the 2 leg semi's.

Back in the day the gate receipts were the biggest income and the cups the biggest draw. Especially the fa Cup and playing at Wembley were the way clubs made the most cash. Obviously times have moved on but the prize money hasn't.

Or even give a CL place to the winner?

I'm sure it's the FA that cam do that and not the PL.

It would make clubs kick off, but as you say they'd field their best teams to get a random entry into that competition should the draw drop favourably.

That's what football is missing; more money.
I’m not disagreeing with you at all, but out of say 8 billion people on the planet, how many do you reckon are fans of, players of, or take an interest/pleasure in the sport? If it’s in the billions, then just maybe you’re right …

It's nowt to do with the EFL or PL. UEFA specify how teams qualify, though too many pundits don't seem to realise this.

Also, the LC was introduced in the early 60s to bring in more gate money. The competition rarely generated significant interest before the final was moved to Wembley in 1967 and a European place awarded to the winners. Prior to that the final was over two legs.
Stoke v City in the 63-64 semi-final was watched by 21,000 but the return at Maine Road was only 16,891, possibly because we lost the first game 2-0.

That would have been a good attendance for us in 1963-64. We only averaged 18k that season in one of our worst seasons ever for attendance (only worse one was the season after).
