Spot on! Like you say it is amazing that the majority of football followers don't realise that it is Uefa who have always decided. The LC is very lucky that it allocated a Europa league spot. It is time that the 2 legged semi is dropped too.It's nowt to do with the EFL or PL. UEFA specify how teams qualify, though too many pundits don't seem to realise this.
Also, the LC was introduced in the early 60s to bring in more gate money. The competition rarely generated significant interest before the final was moved to Wembley in 1967 and a European place awarded to the winners. Prior to that the final was over two legs.
Stoke v City in the 63-64 semi-final was watched by 21,000 but the return at Maine Road was only 16,891, possibly because we lost the first game 2-0.
