4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

I’m assuming you’re being facetious, but if not, then running with the ball and arriving late in the box are his two best attributes.

What adjustments could we make to better showcase his strengths? He regularly has space and time on the ball, giving him chances to carry it forward. Our play often pins opponents back in their own box, creating opportunities to arrive late and shoot similar to how Gündogan used to. Even when Pep adapted the system by having Stones step into midfield to ease his defensive workload, he still didn’t display any of the qualities he’s supposed to excel at. Today we attempted to play for his strenghts.

Stones isn't quick enough to step in and be the 6 in possession. If Gonzalez was back there with Stones, then we could afford to have Reijnders step that far up. Half the time Stones stepped up we got played right through and were left defending facing our own goal.

We saw a good example in the second half where he carried the play but ultimately ran into traffic and wasted possession with a shot. He needs to lay it off to someone (Bobb/Cherki) and then continue his run, but all heads ahead were down looking for the defence-splitting pass.

Part of the problem is that we have allowed ourselves to revert to the slow build up and pinning the opponent back, which negates his strengths. That’s understandable, of course, when the players are playing too often and the squad is carrying injuries, but we’re not going to get much out of him if that continues.

Poor game from him, but the midfield wasn't right you need someone sturdy with him (Rodri or Nico G maybe Nic OR) so he can float forward. We were too lightweight on the whole today. I agree he needs to toughen up but we're two months in and he's still adapting.

1st season ffs lol
You're right, he needs and will get more time, however, he was bought as somebody who could slot in straight away. He's 27, he doesnt have time to take 2 seasons to adapt like some of the younger guys and we as a club cannot wait that long to get maybe 1 or 2 decent years from him. He was bought as a ready made player, he's nowhere near ready.

He's proper kicked me in the bollox.

I watched a lot of Serie A last season and he was the best person on the pitch every time I watched Milan.

I thought he'd slot right in with us.

I was excited to see him, and now every time I do he disappoints.

His intentions are good but he’s not quite coming off yet. I still hope hell find the spark.

He vanishes but the same could have been said of David Silva and Gundogan in their first seasons.

I think he’ll come good but we could use some rotation there

Serie A is probably at its worst it has ever been. The quality in it is very average.

The fact Mctominay is the best player in that league tells you all you need to know.

I think Reijnders will be fine for us, but he won't match Gundogan.

The extra pace of the prem has really thrown our Clark Gable. Will he adapt? It's a 50/50. Fingers crossed.

Love him but cant be starting at the moment. We've got too big of a squad for anyone to be underperforming and still getting the nod consistently.

As already been stated previously, he was our second choice when the main target decided to stay with the Geordies
And that, in itself, is why we aren't dominating anymore. Go for second best, and we'll finish second best.

This lad is very underwhelming, and as of now I don't see where he's going to cement his place.

Same! And its not like Mctomony. Who did it in a way i could tell may not succeed in the Prem.

Tijanni had technique, drive, great passing and shooting technique. Some of his struggles i can see i.e. not enough movement in the team and an overreliance on exceptional wingplay. But i didnt see that dampening his shooting and passing range. It has :( Even his runs arent as confident.

Bummer. He needs tome to get. But in thr meantime....

This guy is not good enough for city & we are not in a position for a potentially good player

One good game at the very start.

Since then he's been mediocre.

Hopefully he's just getting up to speed with the intensity of this league.
