Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv - away fans banned | MTA confirm they will refuse any allocation for safety reasons (p26)

I thought this was a very good piece on it from a non-football fan.

Banned Russia, banned South Africa at the time, but the Gov umming and arr-ing over what it should do as a 2 reasons action, used to be mind-blowing, but is a sign of the times we're under.

a) A country breaking UN rules on collective punishment and ethnic cleansing.

b) and, Maccabi Tel Aviv having hooligans (probably 95% IDF involved soldiers with national service demanded) amongst them.

I've no idea why they're not banned from all sporting events, like they did to Russia.

That's the thing that's even more disturbing. How many IDF are among the fans that could have/if travelled over. These hopefully one day will all be wanted for War Crimes.

If there's any justice, a lot of people would be looking at a trial at The Hague, like Zarah Sultana said, there are a lot culpable for what's happening in Gaza.

Israeli sports teams should have been banned around December 2023 when it was clear that Israel weren’t just retaliating to Hamas’ act of war, and were taking it well beyond that.

As you say, if Russia was banned, why not Israel?

Just like to say again , thank you to the City fans who went to wembley to protest about Israeli participation in football, it was in the media page because of the lack of coverage, and was promptly censored, no problem but i would like an explanation, otherwise a mistake could repeat itself.
Over the week, the media has tried to change the wording of the leader of Labour, Conservative and Liberal leaders, god knows who the leader of the Liberals is, probably just upset that he has not been paid off, all three repeatedly claimed it was anti Semitic and racist, so here`s the problem, how do they know that?, unless they know or accept that Israel is an apartheid state which would see them banned, just like South Africa. They also moved on to the police, and how they were victimizing the Israeli fans, but the police are only one part of the committee that decides safety, and that committee decides the safety of its voters as well, in the Amsterdam riots groups of up to 100 fans attacked property and people not going to the match, non whites, Birmingham is the birth place of anti racism, players like Cyrille Regis and Laurie Cunningham my two favorite non city players would turn in their graves at Starmers words. but a good point was made by an independent, what measures are being taken to stop fans or players, who have taken part in the genocide or war crimes, after all Israel does have nation service, and we do have a large population that have family in Palestine, or at least did, and that was the bit that got Germany banned.

An update from Biggas post by Owen Jones, the lessons have been learned by the police about the safety of football fans and they liaised with other police federations about the safety of Aston Villa fans and Birmingham.

Our government have failed to learn lessons and branded us all antisemite

Seems bizarre for the government to use that line. I see it wasn't just Starmer though - the leaders of the 2 main opposition parties came out with similar guff too. Question is, were they being leant on by the pro-Israeli lobbyists? Seems odd that they'd all be peddling the same, incorrect, line.

I notice it's all gone quiet from all 3 of them, now that it's come out why they arrived at this decision. Even Maccabi's own statement acknowledges that they have a big problem amongst their own fanbase. I also notice that the whoppers who were clogging up this thread defending a bunch of racist football hooligans have cleared off too.

Along with Sky/BBC News.

Real eye opener on who controls the media editorials in this country.

Let me guess. It's the Jews isn't it?
Clearly you are being facetious/flippant about Tin Foils post but can you explain why the initial reports were so distorted ?
This was never about religion, our politicians and media made it so. It originally started as an attack on British people making it unsafe for Maccabi fans and it only went quiet when it later emerged that the Israeli police stopped the Maccabi derby from taking place due to the level of violence.
We rightly condemn Yaxley Lennon and his ilk for lies that provoke hatred but I do not expect it from main stream politicians.

That's the way the media is. They don't look at both sides of the story but take one side or the other. And if they can embarrass the government or sow division (preferably both) then so much the better.

Whilst I agree, that doesn't explain the government and oppositions reaction.
Genuine Jewish residents of Birmingham were concerned about the aftermath that they would have to face. As Jewish residents of Amsterdam felt the backlash, so would they. Politicians had no right to act how they did, it simply caused further religous divisions.

I look forward to GMP banning Gaiatasary for the same reasons especially after their antics in Amsterdam this week. They have significant levels of hooliganism in their fan base. Let’s hope a Villa don’t draw Millwall, Cardiff or Birmingham in the FA Cup. WMP talking through their arse, they are shit scared of upsetting the locals.
