Will we win the league this season?

I thought Arsenal were favourites at the start, and they still are for me.

But we're definitely still in it, I'd put us equally likely as scousers, and everyone else a long way back.

Hilarious thread though, a few pages back it was all over and the scousers bus parade was booked.

Disagree.

Arsenal have by far the deepest side and are rock solid on defense. They struggle - currently - at creating goals from open play - but they're so good on defense that a single goal for is often decisive. The rest of the league is two levels below Arsenal.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if this Arsenal side sets the record for winning the league with the fewest games played.

Just before yesterdays game a radio commentator said City haven't lost since 31/8/25....

That is 8 weeks!

I'm an older fan and if some time traveller told me in 2007 that one day not to far in the future City will have won everything but the fans still moan when they lose a game after 8 weeks of not, I would not have believed it!

Liverpool have lost 4 on the spin, who's to say Arsenal wont have a blip soon, too.

I still think we will win the league and other stuff too, if Haaland scores 50+ goals, we really should....

Liverpool were lucky to win numerous of their opening games - obviously flawed in defense - and super lucky to score very late winners.

In stark contrast, Arsenal have looked rock solid on defense in every game they've played. They struggle scoring goals in open play - but their set piece proficiency is often good enough to see them through for a win. Arsenal are 2 levels ahead of any other side in the prem.

It's early doors - sure - and major injuries could happen for any side - potentially derailing their season. But due to Arsenal's depth - they are especially resilient against this outcome.

Purely on the basis that they're only four points clear at the moment, it would surprise me greatly. But my surprise isn't a great measure of anything.

We're obviously better than we were last season when we finished 3rd, so finishing 6th or 7th seems unlikely.

For instance, we're 8 points up on the equivalent 9 fixtures from last year.

There is no such thing as “equivalent fixtures from last year”. Every season is different and extrapolating across is completely pointless.

Where we finished last season is also a pointless extrapolation. Other teams can improve across seasons. We can be better or worse across seasons.

From what I’ve seen so far, it is not reaching to say there are a number of teams currently better than us and/or likely to be better than us, this season.

Arsenal, Bournemouth, Spurs and Sunderland are all better than us so far. Not just because the table says so but based on what I’ve seen when watching them.

Liverpool, the rags, Villa, Newcastle and Palace have all been pretty close to our current level based on the eye test so far. Nothing much in it.

There is absolutely no evidence so far to suggest we are the 3rd best team in this league.

Haaland scoring 50 goals could essentially mean fuck all.

He could get 40-50 of them v the lesser teams and not score any against the big teams ie 4 v Burnley, a few hat tricks v West Ham, Leeds, Fulham etc. We only get 3 points no matter how many he scores.

If he doesn’t score “important” goals, ie winners v the actual competition, the overall tally means very little, in relation to where we finish in the table.

Don't agree.

You can't logically say that our 1-1 draw at Arsenal wasn't a vast improvement on our 5-1 defeat last season, in terms of result and performance.

I hope I'm wrong, but Pep and his current team are not ready to compete for titles. We lack a reliably backbone of players to compete, and Pep is still overthink his game plan. It's not too late to correct this, but can Pep change some of his ideas? Does the management have the desire to correct the way we select the players we need to sign in order to give the team better capabilities?

Zero chance sadly, in my opinion. At the moment, as we saw at Villa, it's one step forward and two back. We show flashes of getting there, like Arsenal and Brentford away, which are difficult places to get any kind of result. The other teams we have beaten we'd expect to beat. Burnley, the rags, Everton and Wolves. We've sadly and predictably come up short against teams we always struggle with, Brighton and Villa away and bloody Spurs anywhere. No pre season and too many injuries ( As usual ) coupled with a fair few outgoings and incomings means we will take time to settle.
To challenge Foden has to consistently get back to his player of the season form, Haaland stay fit, Rodri come back to how he was pre injury and Marmoush and Cherksi start to fire. A big ask and with Arsenal already six points clear and with a strong talented squad I think this season just isn't possible for us. Obviously I would be delighted to be totally wrong.

I think it's possible that Arsenal might struggle at some point and that Rodri plus 1 or 2 players from {Savinho, Doku, Cherki, Marmoush, Bobb, Mukasa, Reijnders) come good. I think Foden has been consistently good. We weren't that far off getting something at Villa, and as Pep pointed out they are a good side.

I don't think there is a huge disagreement amongst City fans. Everyone seems to regard Arsenal as favourites, and that City need to improve to challenge. The thing is that as you acknowledge, there is still untapped potential in City's squad, particularly in respect to Rodri, Marmoush and Cherki.

Yes with Cherki in particular we haven't had a chance to really see much of him due to injury.
You never know it could all just click and we go on a long run. Bournemouth and Liverpool will be the key fixtures. Win both and we're flying again, stumble and we're probably in a top four fight.

I think Arsenal will win it, mainly as they will not be pushed.

I believe they will go all out now and get a gap, which will see others lose interest and relieve the pressure.

Our job is on building for next season.

A lot to change, but hopefully we can do it.

With just Haaland scoring we cannot win the title as it’s not feasible and the hd will have a barren spell but what worries me is the Rodri situation where he is once again sidelined and we look a shadow again . If this carry’s in serious questions will be asked in the summer about for one a new contract and whether we look to move on which sounds crazy and u can’t believe I’m writing it . We are not good enough to win it this season .

Arse are going to run away with the title without a challenge like last years Liverpoo.

Liverpoo are going to be last years Manchester City, except they've spent close to £500m and gotten much worse.

This years Manchester City are going to be last year's Manchester City.
