EDS @ New York Stadium (EFL Trophy) 28/10 v Rotherham Utd

That’s youth for you play well for one half then a pen goes against you the team loses mentality while the pro team smells blood all helped by the referee by the way

Showed their age tonight and too many still have a fragile mentality. As soon as something went wrong we caved in.

The lads will gain loads from that though. A physical match against a solid league 1 team.

Plenty of talent in that team and should've been 4-0 up at one stage.

Our manager needs sorting out quickly, terrible tactics game after game yet there's queue of apologists come on here to defend him- probably including you ;-)
I must have missed that. I haven't heard anyone calling him a genius, nor anyone apologising for him.
I assume he is where he is because of his record through the age groups.

There are quite a few players in that team that haven't a cat in hells chance of playing for our first team. There are also several who could really make it. However, on the evidence of the last two games in this competition and in the Premier League Two this season, some of them are really doing themselves no favours.
I am also beginning to seriously question Wilkinson. What does he tell these players in the dressing room? This a crucial stage for the development of these players and it appears as though either Wilkinson is not giving them the bollocking they deserve or they don't respect him.
For me, there is nothing more frustrating than see players waste their talent. There are few places available in our first team squad and many younger players coming up. Time is rapidly running out for some of these players.

Come on, did two years at u18 won national title and FA youth cup, then 1 year at u21 and cleaned up with youngest team in the league.

The lads that really struggled tonight were the young lads like McAidoo and Headley everyone calls him out to play more. No desrespect to them they will learn but he’s having to be playing kids who get it there own way physically at youth level against men.

He won’t have free run to pick teams either, other members of academy hierachy will be involved.

This isn’t like last years group, but if he can get a level of consistency in selection and not lose more to loans or moves in Jan he will take them to play offs and won’t be a million miles off.

Some decent performances tonight over the 90

you need more halibut liver oil
The management on the benches sounding quite Neanderthal - not at all sure Wilko should be in charge, gubbins turn appointment. If we lose this as it seems we will that'll be 3 defeats from the first 4 PL2 games. Not good enough with the calibre of players we possess.
Wilkinson has a great reputation as a very progressive coach.

Defeat after defeat with so much talent at his disposal. I'm told all supporters are either apologists or bedwetters - I seem to belong in the second category then ;-)

I think that’s standard isn’t it? If you get 1 becomes part of first team brilliant, a handful good careers elsewhere great, and a few as you pointed out correctly the penny won’t drop that work rate has to match talent will potentially fizxle out.

Still some decent performances tonight and some of them clearly do like to get stuck in and give it a good go, it was clear as day who they were.

My main criticism is not at the coach, I think the club give some of these kids too much too soon and it puts out the fire. Silk pyjamas as I think Marvin Haglwr famously said.

It will be interesting when we read the details of the Rochdale v Scum U21 tonight. Scum won 2-0 but Rochdale substituted two players after one minute. A third sub was used after 22 minutes. The stats say that Rochdale committed 8 fouls (one booking) to Scum's 18 fouls (no bookings). Nothing much to see here. Move along the bus.

I get your frustration but trust me Wilkinson doesn’t have free run at choosing the team, all sorts of shenanigans and politics have to be navigated. Do you not think we looked better when he subbed off the really young kids? Hes dealing with external influences

Honestly can you remember a youth team manager having a more successful run than Ben has over the last 3 seasons?
