47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Trying to move away from the awful stories on social media and just concentrating on the football - I really believe that we can accommodate a system with both Phil and Cherki in it. Phil saw himself as the guy to replace Kev and wanted a shot at being our chief creator - fact is that Kev was a multi tool player so unique it is a tough ask for anyone to replace what he gave the side for most of the last decade.

Watching how Cherki plays as a 10 - from going deep to collect the ball to moving quickly across the oppositions box he has to play there - plus he is equally comfortable on either foot which is rare. Phil then must be in the side ahead of the likes of Savinho and if Pep can find a more balanced, solid system in DM with Rodri and/or Nico stopping transitions I can see him getting back to his 15 to 20 goal a season best. Phil is smart enough on the field to understand that having Cherki in the team will mean he will get far more opportunities to score.

The hardest issue for Pep is how do we get Omar in the side because his movement is impressive but similar to Erling movement is great when you have players deeper who can find an early forward pass. So I don't want to see Omar taking the place of the playmaker. I no longer want to see us be a side that pass sideways and backwards, have 65% possession just hoping for the odd moment when teams go to sleep. We will always be at our best moving the ball forward quicker - Cherki gives you that and just like Kev sometimes his effort to get us forward will occasionally be picked off but that is when your DM is key to stop counters.

I really believe we have the pieces in our squad to get back to the heights of the recent past, it's all about balance and having the right parts play together & Phil should be in that system. Pep must know this.

Doku or Savinho (whoever is in best form but never both), Haaland, Foden

Rodri - Cherki - Nico

Is my starting front six with Bernardo or Tijjani as first change or choice if either Rodri, Cherki or Nico is unavailable. And Omar as first change for Phil or if Erling is unfit.

This may be the first message ive ever seen on bluemoon ever where i think "huh i agree with every word of that!"

Id like us to accommodate both of them too
These guys have great vision as well as footwork and would work better with someone who understands them imo.

His defensive work rate is a little underrated imo

Makes Reijnders look like a weakling.

That's true. Foden is doing better (per 90) than Reijnders re: tackles, recoveries, duels and high regains. Reijnders has done more interceptions.

The what actual fuck is wrong with people

Sadly a lot of society have absolutely no morals, especially when it comes to getting views online.

Absolutely sickening lies just to get people to click a link which might get them a fraction of a penny in ad revenue, or something like that.

If you wanted to get Marmoush in the team as well, could have a go at rolling out the old Mancini formation:

———Rodri—Nico———
—--Foden——Cherki—-
—Haaland-Marmoush—

Fullbacks providing the width. Just not sure Rodri and Nico are mobile enough to cover the spaces left if the fullbacks get caught upfield.

Bit tongue-in-cheek, but might be worth a try. And fluid enough to switch around, e.g.

————Rodri—Nico———
—————-Foden———-
—Cherki-Haaland-Marmoush—

I hope so. But we still need a really good defensive midfielder, ie a fully fit Rodri.
That's true but I think he will be in and out this season, due to other injuries because of his ACL injury, that's why it's so important that Nico G keeps playing well, when required, because he's going to play more than a lot of people think and he getting better and better the more he plays.
