30 | Claudio Echeverri - 2025/26 (on loan at Leverkeusen)

Not surprised. He really thought he would start for Leverkusen who have hundreds of 10‘s. Should’ve just went to Girona instead

I’m more surprised he didn’t make a good enough impression at City for us not to loan him out in the first place.
I think he is very well thought of. In the recent Carson interview he name checks him a few times, likens him to Alvarez.

That being the case, not sure why City didn't insist on deciding where he was sent to on loan.

The club must have input on the teams deemed suitable for the player development and style of play expected.

It would appear not to have been the case with this loan and it looks to have been the wrong choice, and ultimately a waste of time for all concerned.

It’s turned out badly but there was lots of reasons to think it would be a success.

The club obviously preferred Girona because we can weigh in on his playtime etc but he was ambitious, harsh to judge him too badly on that and Girona are shit this year.

Finding a suitable loan destination must be very difficult for young creative players. With all respect to other CFG clubs, the best practice for one of our 10s is breaking down stubborn defenses and they simply won't be giving them that experience.

I too find it hard to blame a player who backs himself. Hopefully we recall him and place him somewhere better for his growth.

Kid thought he's Messi. His pride payed the price warming the bench.

Reis was smart and played 767 mins in Girona making lots of experiences in La Liga.

Ech played 127 mins munching humble pies.

Whilst City probably preferred Girona because they can put some weight on them if it comes to it, a move to a Leverkusen on paper was hardly a disaster.

Ten hag is well known by Pep, the club are run well and have won trophies. We aren’t talking about some second rate outfit.

Ten Hag going hasn’t helped but the lad himself also perhaps hasn’t performed. I have no issue with him backing himself to try a new league and country and up against good players but if he was performing he would be in the team.

You don’t get starts just because your a city player

Erm, Ten Hag was sacked after just 2 league games 2 months ago

Well he obviously didn’t expect to be on the bench and perhaps Ten Hag had promised him a starting berth. All changes when a new manager comes in.

I don’t know how much choice Reis got and whilst he’s playing, being battered most weeks isnt ideal either.

I have high hopes on him

Going back to Argnetina is like giving up now
He really thought he would start for Leverkusen. Wouldn’t start even if ten hag was still there. There are bigger names like Ben Seghir who isn’t even starting - what makes some think he would start?

Girona was perfect. yes they struggled or struggle but it’s part of the game. Need to learn all sides of the game not just the dominant one. At least reis learns how it is to lose and to give his ALL for an actual win - then being part of a top team. You need players who need to know how to turn a lose into a win. Echeverri seems like the guy who didn’t wanna struggle too much. Send him
To Girona for 2 whole years.

I am not sure even sending him to Girona in January would be that beneficial.

Girona are the worst team in La Liga, to send him to a struggling team would top off a disastrous loan year for him in my opinion.

He needs a mid-table La Liga or Bundesliga team that don't have any expectation on them and are likely not going to be relegated.

A team like Real Betis or Werder Bremen.

Anyone could see that Leverkusen move was going to be a potential disaster. They lost their most successful manager, their best player and a few other players who won them the league. Yet, there would have still been an expectation to be amongst the top and have a decent CL showing when in reality it was never going to happen.

So,once again, why do City not decide upon/agree with teams that offer the best options for the player to gain experience ?

If I understand it, the player and/or his agent were the ones dictating where he went on loan. Surely as an employee of City, the club should arrange a loan they believe is the best option ?

Seems an odd way to go about it imho.

at the end of the day, the player has to agree to the loan. If he/his agent will only sanction certain loans then...
