Is anyone good at fixing laptops / computers?

Morning everyone,

My hp 840 g6 laptop stopped charging a couple of months ago. The laptop still worked when on charge but I decided to replace the battery myself. I bought a second hand genuine hp battery for the same model and I replaced it, but it's not charging. It's now not even turning on when connected by the charging cable.

It all seems connected fine to me and I followed a YouTube video and it seemed simple. Any ideas what I might have done wrong?

I'm guessing it could be a faulty battery (the seller got good reviews but could still be this) or, more likely, I've messed up somewhere?

Cheers

Have you tried holding the on button down for around 20 seconds? Sometimes my work laptop goes into like a hibernation mode for no fucking reason, and I found to do that online, which worked.

That’s about all I have to offer I’m afraid.

I had a problem with this a few years ago. HP put all sorts of stuff in their machines to stop people making changes to the battery etc. It wouldn't surprise me if you've been caught out like i did. Bought a new battery, genuine etc, but turns out the motherboard wasn't accepting it and i had to throw it away in the end.

Just tried this and it's s got a light on and making some noises. That's progress from where I was, thanks mate.

Cheers everyone. The classic hold down the power to reset may have done the trick.

Most people fuck their laptops up by using them when they are charging them, if your laptop isn't charging but is usable when plugged in you more than likely need a new battery for it.

If it's an internal battery you will need to dismantle the laptop and replace with a new one to replace the faulty one you were unlucky to receive (It's not that uncommon).
