Will we win the league this season?

At the moment I'd say probably not but if Arsenal's defence starts to get breached with a bit more regularity then we could have a decent chance. We're still a work in progress and I don't think that's a bad thing to say because this rebuild only started 9 or 10 months ago and a lot of the new signings are still bedding in. As the season goes on we should start to gel more.

I also wouldn't go writing off the likes of Liverpool. Or Chelsea who look fantastic some weeks but are struggling for consistency currently. In fact, I think consistency is an issue for every team in the league at the moment bar Arsenal.

As far as bedding in goes, its usually 12 months for a new signing to bed into peps team. Given quite a few were signed last Jan then it should be in the next month or so we see them start to bear fruit. Gonzales is already producing top performances and Marmoush was towards the end of last season but injuries have hampered him so far this season. Khusanov for me is rough Diamond and will do well given a run but the weekends back four for me is the one that should be playing going forward.

I think next week will be telling when we play Liverpool.

Arsenal will likely beat Sunderland so if we lose we go 9 behind and if Liverpool lose they go 10 behind.

Whoever is on the losing side next week is out of the race for almost definite in my opinion.

Any team can collapse: City did it last season and Liverpool did it this season (5 consecutive domestic losses). Arsenal are not immune against a collapse either. Yes, they have a great squad, but so do Liverpool (on paper).

Of course, if Arsenal go 8 pts clear (in case of a draw next Sunday), then they'll be strong favourites. But just like Liverpool lost 4 league games in a row (absolutely nobody expected it), so Arsenal can lose/draw more games than expected. It's a funny old game.

It's hard to see Arse keeping this up the entire season but possibly enough to win it. Not writing the scousers off just yet but hopefully they fade away. Chelsea can't win it due to their exertions in the CWC, or that's the reason some were glad of when we went out. As for us, let's keep improving and not repeat the Villa, Spurs performances.

I can’t claim to have expected the Liverpool results but I wasn’t surprised. Their underlying performance statistics were poor for them meaning they were getting lucky at the start of the season…in fact they were by far the luckiest. Their performances continued at the same standard and they regressed to the mean.

Arsenal are not getting lucky they deserve to be where they are. While you are entirely correct that Arsenal could collapse Liverpool just carried on playing as they have all season it’s just their luck ran out.

IIRC, Arsenal have scored about 5 goals from open play this season. That's a potentially serious issue.

But even if their underlying stats are excellent, that may change. It's a bit early for long-term predictions. They are favourites but surprises are not unlikely to happen. They won 74 pts last season.

After the international break, Arsenal play: Spurs (H), Bayern (H), Chelsea (A), Brentford (H), Villa (A).

We play: Newcastle (A), Leverkusen (H), Leeds (H), Fulham (A), Sunderland (H).

+3 or +4 on Arsenal during that stretch and we are basically neck and neck going into Christmas. All it takes is a swing weekend, really. We have a lot to do, but there's so much left to play for.

Only thing with Liverpool is I think they can fix their defensive issues if they buy Guehi in January. So if they're still in touching distance I can see them going on a similar run of form to last year and catching up a lot of points.

That's assuming Arsenal keep going like an 80-85 point winning team - it wouldn't massively surprise me if they become front runners and the pressure goes off and they play the second half of the season like a 90+ point team.

Similarly I feel that if we can stay in touch while our injured players return and the 10 new players from 2025 settle in, we could go on a big run in the second half of the season or maybe even from Christmas on.

We usually get stronger in the new year even when we we’re bobbins before Xmas. Hoping the same happens next year. So I still think we have a sporting chance of lifting the prem. I still think Arsenal will bottle it in the run in but has for dippers we will have to see.

If we can get other scorers contributing then who knows but I still feel defensively we are vulnerable and our wingers are not consistent enough but we will not be far off .

Why not? It’s between City and Arsenal and I back the Blues. Overall, yesterday’s display was excellent, despite some of the jibes from ‘fans’ I’ve read. They clearly weren’t at Halifax, Shrewsbury or York

On paper it looks like a chance to make up a few points, as you say

Paper and reality are obviously 2 different things. I think we need to avoid loss to Liverpool and then get stuck into that run post intl break. (Obviously i want us to beat Liverpool but i don't think drawing with them at this stage is overly disastrous by any means)

I think it would be a real dagger for everyone else if we do. Especially those forecasting the end of a dynasty.

Stay within 6 points and watch Arteta implode by early February. I genuinely feared Klopp’s dippers, but these are not special. They were better than us whilst we carried injuries and blooded new players. But how did Slott’s lot get away from them so easily? Yesterday, was a real positive result at the start of a big week, two more big wins and we’ll be giving them/everyone real food for thought….

My brain feels like 9 points at Christmas is too much, but 7 is doable, especially given Arsenal still have to come to our place. But I do think not losing to Liverpool is key, especially as I think that beating will kill their title chances.

If we're behind them by any single figures by Xmas, I'll hold onto that. Beating them at ours in April could be enormous.
