Borussia Dortmund (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

I thought we were excellent.

Yes, Dortmund had the majority of the possession in the first 15-20 minutes, but they did very little with it, and rarely threatened to score.

Once Phil put us in front, there was only ever going to be one winner. He was excellent throughout, as were many others. Both wingers troubled their respective wing-backs all game, and their willingness to run at the defence and stay wide helped to open up BVB rearguard, which in turn gave Phil the room to dictate the play and enough time to take the shot for the first goal.

I’d love to know the speed of the ball after Erling thumped in the second; it was really travelling.

It was disappointing to concede, but we never really looked in danger of allowing them back into the game.

Up to fourth. Watch out, Europe; City is coming for you!

He's great coming in off the right, played there a lot for Lyon, played on the right on Sunday and Bournemouth didn't have a scooby how to deal with how fluid City were with Cherki and Foden's movement from the right hand side of our attack.
I agree he's great there in that way but still not a natural winger..
He's an exceptional talent though

We were poor last season, no doubt, but I'm speaking specifically about us playing it out from the back, which at times tonight, we simply couldn't do. It was never that bad under Ederson.
It was last season. It was abysmal.
I think this was behind our change of tactics. Ederson was good with his feet but a combination of things conspired to leave us exposed when trying to build up from the back. Ederson had had his day.
Donnarumma was available and the deal was done. Great business, we move on…

Great result. Excellent attacking play in the first hour or so. Pity that Savinho gives little end product despite having a better game than usual. He's got everything, but is still falling short - the Brazilian equivalent of Steve Kinsey.

Thought we lapsed on their goal and it could have been stopped by better marking on the cross or on the scorer. Need to tighten up for Sunday.

The Don done well, and O'Reilly. Foden MoM. Looking good for a top 8 finish. Happy days.

Good performance on the whole against a very energetic but very limited side.

Some lovely goals and some class performances.

If we’d really wanted to put in a full performance like that first hour we’d have scored about 7 tonight. But, like Villarreal away, the last half hour was just an energy saving exercise… we didn’t need to do much more.

Phil deserves his song belting out in the stands, it’s disrespectful to him that we don’t sing it.

I disagree that BD are a limited side.
They are easily as good as Villa and better than the rags. I thought they were on a par with Bournemouth and will probably have more resilience and longevity.
We beat a good team tonight..

I can't believe how easily pleased some are at times.
So he didnt stink the place out as usual, but he was still clueless in some good positions and defensively.
Dortmund must have watched him - as they gave him the freedom of the park.

Performamce probably didn't warrant the scoreline but that is a brilliant result.

First hour we were great, last half hour we took pur foot off the gas too much then I don't think the change in formation helped us at all. Saw it through after some wobbly moments though. lots of good stuff, plenty of improvement still to be made but very much heading in the right direction and sitting pretty in the table. When our remaining 2 home games and we should secure top 8. Got to get a big result at the weekend now.

Really enjoyed that, more swagger in spells and a few periods where they had the upper hand. But we looked more resilient in comparison to Feyenoord last season.

We are gelling game by game and it’s exciting to watch it develop.

4 lovely goals and it seems a happy camp all round.

I was worried in the first 5-10mins. We then controlled the match through to their substitutes and then making it 3:1.

Phil was immense. It’s not just the goals, which were top class finishes. It’s his work rate and threading of the play. Clear MOM for me. He’s put together a few matches like that this year, just hasn’t had the G/A numbers that his all round play deserves. Glad he got them tonight.

Notable mention for Nico G who was really solid too. Not glamorous but very effective in breaking up opposition play.

A shaky first 10 mins but then we started to dominate before eventually faffing about a bit in the last 20 when we played ourselves into trouble with loose and silly passes.
Foden was great tonight, he did everything you would want him to do.
All 5 goals in the game were pretty good. Great three points for us. On we go to Sunday, rest up chaps and bring your A game into the next one.
