How did York away become part of City mythology?

I wasn’t at York away but I was at Tranmere away that season. Why did York become the myth and not Tranmere or some other small ground?

Exactly. Was it twelfth in the third tier of English football? We were a lot closer to the very bottom of the EFL, than we were to the very top of the Premiership (think that's what it was called back then). Happy days!
