The BBC | Tim Davie resigns as Director General over Trump documentary edit (p 187)

I don't doubt there's a lot of internal politics going on. I also don't doubt that much of MSM is having to adapt to a very fast changing world of communication.
What I don't like though is the BBC seemingly sinking downwards to go with the flow.

Edit.... probably should have said "undercurrent" there ;-)

As much as I agree with that, I worry far more how others are sinking further, the Telegraph being a huge example of it. That and the rise in unregulated online media.

We need a good bbc more than ever right now, and they are still worth fighting for.

Whilst I'm not a massive fan of the BBC it stinks of Starmer this.

The way Trump's speech was edited didn't alter the narrative one bit. All they did was edit out the waffle to cut down the length of his speech. He still invited the mob, wound them up and sent them on their way, and we all saw the outcome.

It’s got nothing to do with Starmer at all. He wouldn’t have been aware of it whatsoever. I don’t think it even had anything to do with Davie, although he rightly lost his job over it.

The BBC is our national broadcaster. And, as such, should be on a different level.
And therefore, you’d expect most to trust them over all other sources most of the time, right? But do you think most do? And after this, rather than viewing such a mea culpa as even a better reason to trust them, going forward, I’d guess those that have fallen for so many other sources will use this as cement for their faith in far less truly reliable sources. It makes me sad.

Love the bbc. They make mistakes, and some big ones over the decades, but on balance still worth every penny. Some fabulous programmes on tv and radio, and an unrivalled archive. Every other country would want a public broadcaster as good as ours.
I agree. I wonder why this has all kicked off now. The programme was broadcast over a year ago and attracted absolutely no complaints when it was broadcast so clearly someone did some digging to make this an issue now. Robbie Gibb is my suspect. A member of the board and Teresa May's ex comms guru-not exactly balanced there either.

It's an organisation riddled with a left wing woke mafia types.

Feeding greedily for years from the money they get for the licence.

Needs a total clean up to try and get it back to being the unbiased national corporation it's supposed to be.

This move to be an influencer on what is morally right and wrong has been years in the making.

They are rotten to the core. Champagne socialists.

utter bollox.

why then is farage platformed constantly?

why has it been run by Tory donors for years?

this is now a politically motivated attack by the right wing elites who want us fed fox news tripe-that you sound like the exact target market.

what? what makes you think Starmer had anything to do with this?

I love the BBC for the institution it has been and for the coverage it has given us over the years. I also think the license fee is incredible value for such events.
However, this latest shit is bloody scandalous.

I really don't think that because of it we should allow our national broadcaster to be influenced by Trump though - look what he has done to broadcasting in the USA. Its become propaganda.

To emphasise my point ref ads - imagine it the Remebrance Service live from the Albert Hall. The poppies are falling from the ceiling and the all new BBC cuts away

Wouldn’t you just time stamp the clips and explain one was said at a later point?
Exactly this. Show the actual truth not what you hoped he said. Once the truth is lost then a news organisation just becomes a propaganda machine. Now broadcasting and printing facts and just facts is pretty boring but someone has to do it (that is the job of the BBC) otherwise you just end up in the famed echo chamber where people are effectively groomed and brainwashed.
