27 | Matheus Nunes - 2025/26

At the time he would of probably of hated playing there especially after Peps comments, but you can see the hard work is starting to show.

It's also helping him that his performances could end up with him becoming first choice for the Portugal national team at the World Cup when he might not of made it in his actual position.
Very true this...

Hmm.

I’d hope his percentage is a little higher now.

I’m going to make a big call and suggest he’s better than Kyle Walker-Peters. :-)
It is literally impossible to find up-to-date rankings of performance... the post I quoted was the best I could find.

That said, Nunes has game-by-game improved at RB. His forte is defense; he's not exceptional going forward.

His issues at RB have been:
1) Over-aggressive, needless challenges leading to free kicks after a foul and;
2) The occasional WTF! bone-head pass - as a RB - across the middle - or some such - leading to a goal scoring opportunity for the opposition.

Nunes is getting better and better at both 1 and 2 - and, for me at least - I have changed my opinion - I now like him as a starting RB in our side.

We can't be world best at every starting position - we need players that are solid and fit out style. Nunes has upped his game and is now good enough that I worry about who will start at RB if Nunes is injured.

Lest my take on Nunes seems completely stupid... there's posts aplenty about whether or not Nunes or Lewis was our first choice RB - some 2 months or so ago. I backed Nunes but felt that he wasn't up to the task as a first choice starter - I've now changed my mind and think that he's more than good enough as a starting RB... but... what if he's injured?

Haha. If I had them I wouldn’t be sharing!
Fair enuff guv, I wouldn't either for that matter :-). Thought it was worth a cheeky ask though.....

Anyway, Nunes has been a revelation, I've always liked his speed and height. I like the fact we are getting a bit taller - Big Erl, NOR and Gigi alone increase the average height. But I've got my luv for the little pocket rockets too like PWF, Bilva, Cherki, Jezza D. Room for all and each with different attributes.

I wasn’t trying to dig you out, more the list!

There’s a strong case to suggest Nunes is the best crosser of the ball at the club at the moment, so his attacking play isn’t that bad. He’s better than Walker was, for instance.

Nunes is learning on the job and is improving all the time.

Also, I think that he’s beginning to believe that he’s good enough there and that he now belongs.

How could anyone including Nunes himself have seen it coming a mile away when he’d never even played the position before 10 months ago?
He played it last season. We all saw it. The last 5 - 6 games showed it. And that was without having any experience.

Here is what I said before the season started. I didn't stammer, stutter or consult an oracl5. I simply watched his football at Right back and simply projected that athletic profile, plus confidence minus bad luck of every error leading to a goal.

The Math was really that simple.
I just saw a picture of my boy beaming from ear to ear. His confidence seems to be through the roof. I think he is finally comfortable in his skin at City.

I predict a banger of a season is in the making. They'll be talking about him and Hakimi in the same breath when this season is done.

You just watch :)

When someone talks rubbish and grossly overstates things to promote nonsense it's called an agenda among other things...
Oh right, he wasn't poor the last two years and wasn't frequently left out the matchday squad. I accordingly have an agenda.

Numpty.

Whats's your point ? Doku wasn't great for 2 years now he is. Why are you basing your opinion of Nunes on 2 seasons and not this seasons performances especially when he wasn't even playing in the same position. There is only one question ,is he a very good right back for us now and the answer is yes he is.Is it that hard?

The point is that I made an assessment based on his performances for the last two years and that guy called me out after a recent upturn in form.

It is reasonable to call him a nothing player based on August 2023 to September 2025.

I acknowledge his good form and hope it continues, but I'm not going to start saying he's a quality PL footballer based on half a dozen good performances.

It's much more than half a dozen, maybe half a dozen since you started to notice.
