God knows how Martinez has managed to bounce from getting Wigan relegated and doing fuckall with Belgium's golden generation straight into the Portugal job.
 
See that Troy Parrott scored twice, he was one of the best players I've watched play against City at Youth level.

Unfortunately he's a massive twat who chooses to hang around with international drug traffickers but he has the sort of ability to have a real impact in a tournament even if he has already blackballed himself from the top sides at club level.
 
The sending off didn't effect the game anyway, they were already 2-0 down against a piss poor Irish team.
Not condoning the abuse but i would imagine the fans were irate with the lack of effort put in by their team
 
They should have employed a manager with enough balls about him to say to Ronaldo after the last Euro's that it was going to be his last tournament.

The fact he is going to be leading the line for a talented Portugal team at 41 years old at the world cup despite playing in Saudi for 3 years is an utter disgrace.



Radja Nainggolan didn't have a lot of positive words about Martinez last week:

He said: “He is not a football expert, he’s a very poor coach. Belgium could have won titles if it wasn’t for him.

“With Martinez, there was no tactics or strategy. When we were in trouble, it was, pass to Hazard, or to De Bruyne, or to Lukaku. Never any style, never any tactics.

Might be justified but it is never a good look. Portugal would be at worst joint favourites for the world cup imo if they didnt have Martinez as a manager and had somebody willing to retire Ronaldo who is nothing but a passenger in all the games. Martinez ruined the Belgian golden generation and he's doing his best to ruin Portugals too. It's actually kind of impressive.

A clear case of that spoofer, Roberto Martinez, working his magic again.

I watched the game. You're right that it's far from a good, let alone great Irish team but the win was certainly no fluke. Put simply, Ireland wanted it more and what had a clear strategy ( however limited - defend in a 5-5 formation and catch them on the break with balls over the top two or three lightening quick forwards).
Portugal, on the other hand, were dull-witted in ideas and lacklustre in execution. Nine-hundred and ninety-nine times out of 1000, that Portugiese side should be beating that Irish team with ease but they didn't last night and only got out of jail in the return fixture thanks to some very weak refereeing. (I'd say he asked Ronaldo for his shirt after the game). Martineau really is a spoofer.

Martinez is a fraud of a manager. His reputation based on a last minute winner in a cup final.

We saw how he ruined KDB for us when he was Belgium manager.

Ronaldo is the heavily tanned elephant in the room and Martinez is his puppet. Remove them and Portugal will become a top tier European nation again.
