Will we win the league this season?

I seen this excuse regurgitated over the weekend. I think it was The Athletic. If true how come it wasn't an issue when they were winning their first few matches?

Then I wondered if it had affected Portugals world cup qualifiers. They've just won 9-1 to make sure they top the group and go to the world cup.

It's almost like top level sportsmen can put these things to the back of their mind and just get on with the job
Don’t remember our drop off in 2003-04 from the season before ever being attributed in the press to Foe’s death in the summer between.

The UEFA Cup and new stadium. Plus transfer windows were a killer for Kev, along with a declining budget.

We all know City were not minded to pay anywhere near the agreed £7m negotiated in 2002 if they wanted to buy him, and probably wouldn't have been back at City anyway.

Yes, our home form was especially poor that season, as I think a lot of teams raised their games when coming to our shiny new stadium. Just checked and we only won five games at home that season.

Be pretty nuanced to detect a drop off back then!
Haha! Fair comment (sort of) but there definitely was one. We only guaranteed safety with a win at home v Newcastle just before the end of the season whereas the season before we were comfortably mid table. I’d say that was a discernible drop off! :-)

The season now gets real. Since the season started, we have had 3 international windows. Stop-start is now over.

International windows are very disruptive. They drawdown on our players' physical and mental reserves and they interrupt momentum but it's the same for Arsenal.

We are now coming into an important period where there will be one game after another. We are well placed in all competitions and we are largely healthy. This is the moment when the domestic season becomes unrelenting. In 2024-25, City couldn't handle the intensity of the PL and CL games. This season I think it's different. One of our priorities will be to qualify for the CL asap so that we don't have to go through an extra round of games.

I think we may start to rotate players a little more than we were and we might see Khusanov, and Rico play more games.
