Old Maine Road photos thread

Probably already been posted but i love this photo of braziers being used to thaw out the pitch in 1953

I feel like the most those would do is melt the top 2cm of...pitch? mud? making it slippery as fuck and make it no softer at all.

Over half of my Maine Road days were spent in that open triangle, mostly leaning on that barrier on that far right.

The better rake and seeing most of the pitch over the NS was a prime position for a semi short arse and the over hang from the NS kept me dry most of the time too.
Strangely, that section of Maine Road is the only bit I've never stood or sat in. Your post made me realize this.

Makes me think of the Charlton5-1 promotion game,I wasn't there, but the reports / memories of how packed the ground were are really brought to life when you look at pics of 'windy corner '
from the game.
Absolutely solid packed.incredible.

That documentary was an embarrassment and showed us just what a joke the club was at that time, not that we needed any proof.
I take your point,I'm not gonna argue the toss.....
But that ' CITY ' documentary was formed around the early 1980/81 season which started as a disaster.....but the camera stopped rolling ....when City turned into one of the most exciting teams in the country, when Swales approved the signings of Gerry Gow,Bobby Mac and my super hero winger the high stepping Tommy Hutch...Swales wasn't all bad, imo, and I would have loved to have been watching the Blues home and away on the rise from the bottom of the old 1st Division to finish 12th, AND surged to the league cup semi finals and Fa Cup Final with some belting performances at Maine Rd Goodison Park,London Road and Villa Park.( ( Paul Power!!)

If Granada had done a documentary on utd .....they would have kept the film rolling and showed what a brilliant exciting unit Manchester City FC turned into that half season....
Imo

1988/89 ProMotion season - Lost 3-2 - Lake & Taggart for us but Chelsea were superb that afternoon
Yeah scoreline looked close but Chelsea basically out played us that day......their revenge for our 3-1 win at the bridge earlier that same season.when Redmond marked Dixon out of the game comfortably.Lake Moulden Hinchliffe Brightwell all had cracking games. Away fans were ' banned' that Tues night ..Some of us made it in tho ; )

All sat in their main stand : )

I sat on my hands until the third goal went in when I jumped up! Fair play to the Cockneys after the game - I thought I was going to get filled in but they all congratulated me for having the bottle to sit there on my own.

Didn’t they beat us 1-0 on a Friday night in Division 2 around that time ?
2-0 - The Chelsea mob had a block in the Main Stand next to the North Stand "gap" - with my daft dad in the middle of them refusing to move until the police advised him to. I'm stood on The Kippax thinking, just move FFS!!

My Grandfather was a similar type of stubborn, obstinate bloke.
He fiercely maintained a stanchion on the Bob Bank at Ninian Park was only his (and his mates) place to stand.
He would physically try to move anyone (including away fans) who would innocently stand/rest there.
I really miss the terraces as you could move around the Kippax at most games - depending which end City were attacking...

Swales wasn't all bad?

Chelsea on the forecourt before the 1984 Friday night game. There are some from inside the ground but struggling to find them.
