Elliot Anderson

Replacing Bernardo with either of these would be a significant downgrade. Bernardo Silva ran us ragged when we played Monaco, and was an unbelievably good player when we signed him. They would possibly represent an upgrade on current Bernardo, but they are not close to his levels when he was at his best. We need to replace prime Bernardo, not current Bernardo.
Bernardo isn’t a regular starter now though and Kovacic won’t be either, so the question is which starter would any midfielder we buy replace from, Rodri, Gonzalez, Foden, Reijnders , Cherki, Bobb unless the replacement is better than those we are more likely move O’Reilly ito midfield to make 6 for the midfield 3 than spend big money on Anderson.Plus depending how they progress there are Echeverri and Nypan that may come back.
Far too early in the season to predict any midfield incoming next summer.

That’s my point. At this juncture we should be buying better players than what we’ve got, not infillers to replace ageing stars.

Yes but is there a better 6 than Rodri and Gonzalez provide, is there a better 8 than Foden and Reinders provide and early days but think we'll be asking the question soon is there a better 10 than Cherki?
Early but think by the time we get to next summer midfield may well not be a priority.

Let’s see more of him first before even offering any money at moment he’d be just a squad player and think NG is going to be top number 6 for us at moment for me NG is in the 2nd season Rodri faze where he looked like he could take Fernandinho role and it to Rodri another 2 season after that to become the Ballon D’Or Rodri

Yes there are better than Gonzalez and the jury is still out on Reijnders, though I’m hopeful he’ll come consistently good as it’s very early days. Put another way, if prime Bernardo was available to sign today would we sign him, or would we say no we don’t need him as we have what we have. We need to be looking to improve on what we have if we want to get better. I just don’t see the point in spending significant English premium money on two decent but not stellar English players who will not take the place of anyone we have currently have other than ageing stars. We are ways off of previous best teams, and infillers won’t change that.

Don't agree about Gonzalez, think he is now getting to a level where he is a very good Pep 6 and still improving anyone replacing him would need to learn the position and wouldn't be as good as Nico. Reijnders agree needs to adapt more but think in a month our first choice 8 and 10 will be Foden Cherki, think Foden fast becoming the best 8 in the league.

I think Gonzales has been great in recent matches and improving all the time. Reijnders is inconsistent but has been brilliant in spells. I think he has huge potential. This is an exciting squad and Pep is fired up. He loves bringing out the best in players. I am very optimistic at present for our club.

I'd be amazed if Anderson is still at Forest next season. Same with Wharton at Palace really too. They will go to bigger (if not definitely better) clubs I'm sure, so if we want either, the time needs to be Jan or this summer.

His passing is not up to scratch yet. I am hopiing it is just that he is cautious. His shielding is not far behind Rodri.

He would be a brilliant signing. Although I’m still hesitating between Elliott and Wharton, I think Elliott would be more useful to the current squad, even though Wharton is two years younger (but much harder to bring in). Nottingham will be relegated, so acquiring Elliott should be easier, shouldn’t it?

From City’s perspective, it would be a phenomenal transfer: he fills the homegrown quota and needs no adaptation to the Premier League. Rodri is getting older and perhaps it’s time to have a player he can mentor. Nico alone isn’t enough if you want to push for the biggest trophies.

I believe the £400k a week that Bernardo earns, and his likely departure along with Kovačić, frees up more than enough space and funds for Elliott’s transfer — and why not show some superiority and bring in both Elliott and Wharton?

Squad depth is the most important thing in England, which became painfully clear after last season’s disaster…

Wharton top quality for a team in transition with his first touch passing! We know Pep though he would elevate him into far better player!

Been watching Anderson last couple of international games a few for Forest where I thought what’s the fuss about?! Watched him for England and he has that 6 nailed down how he receives the ball back to goal holding of 1/2 players then laying it off, he hasn’t got that winning the back quickly noticing where he has to be before that opposing player receives the ball and passes it!

Wharton and Anderson for me totally different type of players for me, they both could complement each other in midfield..

£400k per week wages for Bernardo? You're as bad as the newspapers.

Anderson is one of those quietly effective players you only notice watching regularly. He is a superb player but he'll rarely get the headlines. I'd sooner us go for Wharton if anybody though, i believe he has a much higher ceiling and more the type of player that we require.

Newcastle must be livid they had to sell Anderson for PSR purposes. They'd be looking at a player worth at least 3 times what they got for him
