"We have a bit of a mixed bag," Howe told BBC Newcastle (via The Chronicle). "Anthony [Gordon] we will wait and see, it will be touch and go for the game.

"Sandro [Tonali] should be fine. Nick [Pope] had concussion but he has passed the protocols there, so he should be fine. We have still got a few who we are nursing back. Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall in the early stages – although he has made a couple of really good appearances [for England Under-21s].

"Yoane Wissa is still out but starting to up his work now. So yeah, we are looking in a healthier place."

Have we escaped injury free for the international rubbish?
Hopefully... Tosser Garcia waiting till the 71 minute to take Doku off when they're 7-0 up doesn't help the chances. Really not into international football personally. Can't remember the last time I watched an England game.

Their crowd will be right up for it.
It’ll be a pretty standard atmosphere for when a massive club comes to town, if the game’s going well for them they’ll get a bit giddy but nothing special.

The commentators will compare it to Old Firm derby atmospheres or Galatasaray on a European night as long sweeping aerial shots of the crowd reveal most people stood there not making any noise at all

I agree fully, am on hols and as it fell I watched both Jock games which were actually great watches....and the two NI games that weren't.

Can see Pep using players that didnt play intl games so Savinho will probably be in, maybe a the expense of Doku who played last night.

Hope we see some Rodri minutes too.

Subject to fitness, I cannot see any reason why we should not play the same team as vs the dippers with the same tactics i.e. a narrow midfield with wing back play. It will be interesting to see if the barcodes try to counter with a
5-3-2.
I can see only a good win here. NUFC1 MCFC 3.

No Dan Burn is a huge loss for them.
I live up here and most are thankful as long as Hall can play. They hate him playing lb. I tried to remind them it would likely be Sav he would have been up against and whilst he would have been skinned again and again, the crowd would have met most of the crosses and shots, not Haaland.

They look yo be struggling in full back area so 2 wingers doku + 1 of savio/marmoush foden in the 10 big decision is who plays alongside gonzalez? Rodri can't be 100% Newcastle have great energy in midfield so I'd go with rejniders though I think pep will pick bernie back 5 stays the same.

Donaruma

Nunes

Gvardiol
Oreilly

I work with a Geordie season ticket holder.

He is gutted

Hall hasn't started a league game recently. Trippier is not the best FB around. Doubt Livramento will start after being 2 months out. They'll expect problems on the wings.

Too many “must win game” type comments

Win, lose or draw we’re in the hunt

My prediction ….. win 39 , draw 51, lose 119

Pages in the post match thread
I think a draw is fine but a defeat will be a major blow. Four defeats before Christmas is not a good look and would badly damage the confidence of a young developing team.
There are always more pages after a poor performance and that's understandable as a lot of those pages are people unhappy about other people who are unhappy. Human nature really.
