Same here mate. I was down after the manner of the Villa loss, but it's clear Pep didn't help with the midfield selection.

That was a defeat solely down to the personnel who were on the pitch - a mix of injuries and selection choices from Pep.

- Starting Bobb and Savinho together with Doku on the bench was asking for trouble offensively.

- Gonzalez was injured on top of Rodri being injured which meant we had no holding midfielder.

- O’Reilly started on the bench meaning we looked less solid on the left side of our defence.

Our best XI would have won that game.

If we don't beat Newcastle, we are not good enough to compete for the title. If we beat them, they are a bit shit: let's see whether we can get a result in Madrid or at Palace. If we fail in those games, then we are not good enough. If we beat them, they aren't all that right now, so let's see whether we can beat Chelsea or United away. Rinse and repeat.

I think it's clear we are good enough to challenge. And we are likely to get better in the next months. The result at Newcastle will change the odds a bit. Nothing more. I hope we win, though.

Refereed us twice.
2-1 loss away to Brighton last season.
6-0 win away to Ipswich last season.

The league isn’t about domination, although we’ve given that impression in recent years. It’s about having the balls when it matters.

A draw wouldn’t be the end of the world,a loss and I don’t think we can sustain a title challenge with our then away form,a win would set up a nice Sunday Arsenal Spurs only being a point behind pressure builds, get the win lads ..

I agree.

For me it's setting the statement for Arsenal to match on the Sunday. These are wins that decide title races because they can demoralise your opposition.

If we are getting pummeled, don't get me wrong I will take the draw, but considering Howe has not beat us in 18 attempts and the current inconsistencies this current Newcastle are showing, I want a win.

A loss would mean a third of our total league games this season have been defeats. That just isn't good enough to base a continued title charge on in my opinion.

It's not inconceivable that Newcastle end the weekend in the bottom 3. That's how inconsistent they have been this season. Add in both Liverpool and Arsenal have already got victories at their ground and they have no first choice fullbacks to choose from. Like I said, we should be winning this.

I do take your point but I’m a pragmatist Father Paul. Given the choice I’d sooner we lose and Arsenal draw rather than we draw and Arsenal win.

Confidence imo will come from having a run of results that closes the gap to them and hopefully overtakes them rather than avoiding an arbitrary number of defeats
True axel. But basic statisics not football statistics normally suggest otherwise. Lets hope come May we are all celebrating.
