3 | Ruben Dias - 2025/26

For somebody who struggles with a ball down the side or behind him, he doesnt half like to go square on. Nunes is bailing him out far more than yhe other way round at present.
 
The defensive line was all over the place. Pace was never his strength but he seems to have lost a yard. He only seems to play well when he has Stones next to him.
 
He spends more time high-fiving people than actually defending nowadays. It’s all style over substance.

I watch other matches and you see defenders rushing out to block shots, headed clearances etc but Ruben just stands there legs outstretched in a half lunge pose, arms ridiculously tight behind is back (are you looking ref) and rarely gets close enough are in the correct position to block a shot. He also rarely seems to pick up his man and the move generally finishes with an effort on goal. Woltenmade had the freedom of the stadium for his three chances and for their second he ignored the line of defenders and played Guimares on. Was incredible in his first couple of years but regressed badly, esp since 2023.
 
Rightly he is starting to come under scrutiny. Was poor last season but as we’re pretty much everyone. He has been very average this season. Needs to step up. Another one who didn’t deserve the contract extension they were given.
 
Dias is fucking garbage, real shame and no idea why he’s regressed so badly.

His defending yesterday was comical, he’s awful.
 
Poor after a recent improvement. If I see us reverting to him floating nothing balls into the box again I'll probably just switch off or leave at that point. We'll know it's done.

Because our record with Stones this season is miles worse than our record with Dias and Gvardiol.
 
He definitely organise the defence like he had been doing recently. He was all over the place - as was Josko. He kept on stepping out and was just bypassed. Both goals of theirs had comical defending
 
Looking forward to the day Khusanov has enough trust with Pep for us to drop Dias.

Used to be a hell of a defender, spends more time shouting than defending these days and it’s a pretty bad look when your most senior CB and leader of the backline keeps playing people onside for goals.

Agreed.

Desperately need depth at CB. Dias can go for all I care. Ake too. Bring in fresh blood.

Yup, he’s garbage. Giving him, Rico & Savio new long term deals was a serious dereliction of duty.
