Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Newcastle did well with their high press and compacted well once cleared. Always going to be a difficult game but when you miss 3 really good opportunities away from home.

Thought Cherki was the weak link, allowing players to get away and poor passing in the offensive third, leading to breakaways.

Still early days with this group, I see bigger things to come.

Bent as fuck.

But in terms of the actual play, Newcastle were the better side and deserved the points imo.

We simply do not look like a title winning side and there is a lack of ideas in tough periods of games.
They were quite happy to let us have the ball and be patient and wait for their chances. The big Don certainly kept us in it. I didn’t think we played too bad until we went 2-1 down. Just no urgency whatsoever in that side. As you say well off a title winning side we might be a Europa league side by the end of the season

Why do you feel the need to make excuses for him ? Two one on one's and a shot in the middle of the goal from 7 yards straight at Pope. Haaland was dreadful today - as was Foden.
Oh. I wasn’t really making excuses, but my apologies.

Let me make my point a little clearer.

None.
Of.
His.
Chances.
Were.
As.
Easy.
As.
Foden’s.

Hopefully that helps a bit.

We got the shaft there. Not happy with the missed chances, the lack of protection for Nico in the middle, but most of all the officials. I think rather than any ref favoring any given team, they are simply just fucking shit.

Not the ideal place to go after an international break. Deserved a draw and was on the end of a couple of poor decisions from the officials (which can happen)

No one I think is going to run away with the league so to give up on it now is too soon. Arsenal couldn’t beat this season’s Liverpool or promoted Sunderland.

We are still a team being rebuilt. We just need to go on a good run which could happen.

I’m probably ignorant in my fume but…considering the red line is parallel to the 6-yard box. How is Ruben keeping him onside?!

Ignoring the fact it was his fucking elbow.

Because the animation they show said so! Nothing to see here, move on!

It's mad how they show a computer image and expect everyone to just accept it, instead of the real footage.

The international break didn’t help us, think we lost a bit of rhythm. That said, had we got our noses in front, it may have been a different story. Whilst VAR didn’t do us any favours, we’re used to that and have won titles in spite of it. Can’t be arsed crying about it, that’s for scousers.

If Arsenal win tomorrow, they’ll clearly be in a great position. If Spurs take any points, it’s game on again.

Probably best to just bin today and move on. A decent win on Tuesday night would also be a great reset.

Chippy and beer now. I’m over it already!

We didn't deserve anything from the game. Our defending was absolutely abject for the whole match. Dias isn't organising them properly and his lack of pace is being easily exposed. Gvardiol has also been very mediocre at CB. It's time to play him at left-back again and push O'Reilly into midfield.
Baffled noone is talking about more of our really poor defending in both of their goals and quite the same un the first half.
