Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

There’s no way that armpit of Diaz is playing that right foot of Barnes onside.
Doesn’t matter whether it is or not. I’d imagine law 11a will be wheeled out and be on a continuous loop, for the next 10 days on Skysports, with the BBC doing an in depth analysis of why the referee was wrong…

We can complain about the refereeing all we like but if we’re being honest that just wasn’t good enough. Our midfield went missing in the first half and our central defenders were all over the place.

We had a big opportunity today and weve just handed the initiative straight back to Arsenal.
It was an opportunity, but talk of being in a title race is highly optimistic. The online content creators bang on about it in their bedroom echo chambers, but there is a fair degree of delusion in all of it. Rocking up to half-decent sides like Villa and Newcastle, then looking like we are not good enough in the actual game is a million miles away from a side that will challenge.

We are in a battle for top 4, and any talk of more is, IMHO, nuts. Rodri being out, which is starting to look very worrying, is a monster problem, and generally we look two very good players short of being able to get into a title race.

However, if Pep believes the answer is to bring on 3 players who have been, at best poor, Savio, Bobb and Reijnders, then its either a matter of not having quality in depth, or he has huge blind spots. In any event, Savio isn't an answer to a question I can think of in the context of a football match.

The rebuild is ongoing. Is all. Another year...I fancy us. Now? Not really.

You’re not winning the league with form like this. That Liverpool game means nothing now, back to square one. Another away test failed, these are results a team that finishes 3rd gets. Ah well.

You don’t deserve to win the league when your wingers are Savinho, Bobb, Doku. Doku’s improvement alone can’t do it all.

The way we 'defended' - and got away with it - in the first half, it's a bit churlish to moan about the offside, but (and I can't be arsed reading this year's interpretation of the rule again) wasn't the idea to only take into account those parts of the body with which a player could legally score?

They even had the 6-yard line as a reference point.

Lost that through missed chances, and there were some beezers, I’m not always into this but the ref was poor and the var baffling. As for the comic book var confirmation, genuinely wtaf is that about, that shows no proof whatsoever it’s a cgi image that can be altered, and yes I’ll say it, it most certainly was.
var can be altered because theres no chip in ball its still down to which frame they use

All this moaning about VAR, poor reffing etc is a smokescreen, we were wank today, lets not pretend otherwise and it was not for the first time this season. And, lets have it right, we are perfectly happy with dodgy VAR decisions that go our way, so today it might have gone the other way, so boo-hoo. The reality is that, away from home, we lack the balls for a fight. When the going gets tough, we scarper! Until we sort that out, we can forget the title.
Nope Not having that

Rubbish, scoring those penalties and the correct ruling on off side the score would be different

Just to make a point the PR dept should get Dias in a pair of boots and budgie smugglers and body paint him in a full matchday kit to show what we think of VAR

No point in scouseresque whining, we were poor in defence and poor in attack. Got what we deserved. 88th minute we get a corner. It never makes it into the box and 5 seconds later we are defending our own area. And did anyone seriously think bringing on Savinho and Bobb was going to result in an equaliser ? Bring on Tuesday.
Reminded me of the Allison era that corner

I think we are just at a stage of our rebuild where at home we will win more than our fair share. With the Etihad crowd giving the support and being the 12th man I think helps us.

Unfortunately we are still not a top side and have many issues the most obvious being that we don’t keep the ball as well as we used to and we struggle to take the sting out of games away from home when the momentum is going against us.

I think we will get better over time but in the here and now we have certain players who aren’t good enough to win a league title, yet.

It’s a shame but this year a proper title challenge I think is a stretch too far. Hopefully Arsenal drop points though and we stay in touch but 4 defeats in 12 games is not title winning form.
I agree . Annoyed at the bullying and mismatch in midfield though and it was pure luck we got out of there without a serious injury and the referee ok etc far too much go . That " non penalty " on Foden was potentially very bad. I'm hoping the defeat galvanizes the team but we looked a bit leggy all over the pitch today .

Referee: Sam Barrott. Assistants: Tim Wood, Nick Greenhalgh. Fourth official: Leigh Doughty. VAR: Craig Pawson. Assistant VAR: Nick Hopton.

Pawson no wonder we didn’t get anything
