Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I think we are just at a stage of our rebuild where at home we will win more than our fair share. With the Etihad crowd giving the support and being the 12th man I think helps us.

Unfortunately we are still not a top side and have many issues the most obvious being that we don’t keep the ball as well as we used to and we struggle to take the sting out of games away from home when the momentum is going against us.

I think we will get better over time but in the here and now we have certain players who aren’t good enough to win a league title, yet.

It’s a shame but this year a proper title challenge I think is a stretch too far. Hopefully Arsenal drop points though and we stay in touch but 4 defeats in 12 games is not title winning form.
If we'd have turned those defeats into draws the Tarquins would still be 3 points ahead with a win tomorrow, with everyone back-slapping us for our unbeaten status. Wins are far more important than nicking a draw, which might as well be a defeat.

Win the next very winnable 7 games and we'll be right back in it.

But I might be chatting total shite.

All this moaning about VAR, poor reffing etc is a smokescreen, we were wank today, lets not pretend otherwise and it was not for the first time this season. And, lets have it right, we are perfectly happy with dodgy VAR decisions that go our way, so today it might have gone the other way, so boo-hoo. The reality is that, away from home, we lack the balls for a fight. When the going gets tough, we scarper! Until we sort that out, we can forget the title.

I wouldn't say totally wank we could have easily scored three goals ourselves and we should definitely have got at least one of the two penalty shouts. We are a bit mentally and physically weak at times, agreed. We are still too easy to get behind in some games. Our bench when chasing a game doesn't give you any confidence. Bobb is a shadow of the player he was, I've no idea what's happened to Marmoush and the less said about Savhino the better. A proven premier league goalscorer, coming to the end of his career who's happy to play second fiddle would be useful on the bench. Callum Wilson scored twice today for West Ham, we need a similar back up, Haaland can't score every game.

Whether we've played well or not, why shouldnt we discuss all aspects of the game including the officiating?

It had a big impact on the result today.

You’re not winning the league with form like this. That Liverpool game means nothing now, back to square one. Another away test failed, these are results a team that finishes 3rd gets. Ah well.

You don’t deserve to win the league when your wingers are Savinho, Bobb, Doku. Doku’s improvement alone can’t do it all.

Thing is a draw against Liverpool and Newcastle the feeling would be different we got 3 points from 2 games and it’s November 7 points behind with us still have to play Arsenal! We will be there or there about will we win the league? At moments no one knows it’s in Arsenals hands at moment and evidence of the past says they bottle it!

We started the game like a bunch of idiots. They had a chance in the first 40 seconds! That got the crowd bang up for it if nothing else.

Lo and behold second half they had a corner within 30 seconds.

We score a goal and they have another corner and subsequent goal within a minute.

We didn’t have one decent chance in the last 25 mins after they scored. 3 shit subs didn’t help.

We can and should absolutely discuss it, what else would we do? But lets not pretend that we were unlucky or robbed, we weren't. We don't have the fight of 4 or 5 years ago, we are over-reliant on Haaland and I'm not over-convinced by the quality of our recruitment, I stand by what I said, when the going gets tough - esp away from home, too many go missing.

That’s fine mate. I’m just saying what I see. We play well, look forward to a tough away game and we fail, again. We are better than last season but still a way of winning the league IMO. Said it before but you can’t win the league when your striker is scoring more goals than the rest of the squad combined…

Harsh on Gonzalez. Newcastle have a physical midfield, borderline foul play. We had a midfield designed to attack. Gonzalez got a kicking with no protection from the ref or his team mates. Joelinton finally got booked for 94 minutes of persistent foul play.

Agree. Harsh on Gonzalez who lacked support.
