47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Think Tuchel was on to something in the week if he's flat then that's how it i is and he's not going to come through later
Might as well not pick him or hook him quick
Whereas others , Sterling was an example can have a terrible miss and the next minute bounce back
Hope he's not got England syndrome again.
He seemed to be more on the right today whereas going off the naked eye with Liverpool bit more left.
Pep was very generous leaving him on that long today.

Foden will be Tuchel's fall guy.

He will take Bellingham and Palmer and leave Foden at home in my opinion.

Tuchel has pretty much already said the 3 of them are fighting it out for the number 10 position.

Phil needs more goals/assists to travel with England.

Also, Tuchel's comments that he sees him more as a forward (between 9 and 10) than a midfielder, make it more difficult for Phil to compete. He should up his output. He can do it.

He seems scared and unsure of himself.

I wonder if there's something mentally going on. He's not taking players on in the same way he did a year or two ago; he's playing very conservatively and safely and not taking enough risks.

We know his quality, but he seems to have some sort of block.

Whenever he has a bad day it’s because of his mental state. He just wasn’t good and will have offgames. He’s not Messi

None of us know what went on last season but Phil has been open in interview about mental fatigue/burnout.

He had a shocker today and we can all admit that. He lacks composure in front of goal in the prem (and with England) and he’s trying so hard to score he seems to fumble his touch and doesnt get his shot off right.

18 months ago he would have scored all them three but the key point is this ain’t 18 months ago. Hes come off a really difficult season and since September has been a totally different player, much more positive, more creative putting in the work. I’ve loved watching him this season. We need to be realistic that he’s not going to be immediately back to POTS form after last year whatever happened.

Also the penalty that somehow wasn’t a penalty clattered him and im not surprised he wasn’t jumping into tackles after that probably scared he’d do his ligaments again.

He’s got credit in the bank for me based on this season alone let alone the last 6-7 years. Feels like he needs a goal in the prem and hell settle into it. We all know he can do it.

I think Phil has elite talent, but doesn't have an elite mentality. The best players in the world have both, like say de bruyne did. I think Phil will have peaks and dips always, and probably won't quite be the player that we want. He'll still be excellent and one of the best in the league, but I don't think he'll be Kev or david silva level.

He was limping throughout the game after that tackle. He put a shot over the bar in the second galf and struggled putting his foot down straight after. When he went off it looked like they put ice straight in his foot. Surprised he stayed on so long with it.

Is that where he should have had a nailed on pen?

Yes, he carried on and we said we couldn't understand how he hadn't been subbed. I know he played on and probably said he was fine but the management should have overruled. When he shot over the bar you could instantly see he couldn't put his foot down and spun around on one foot in pain. Shocking tackle and was a red card alone nevernind anything else. Compare and contrast that tackle to the one Bobb got booked for, his only tackle in the game against Tonalis half a dozen that went unpunished. It doesn't make sense.

On another day, he’s won us a penalty, scored a tap in and curled one in from the edge of the box

The game is fine margins. That’s the difference between being PFA player of the year and being an also ran.

It’s also a wider point about that’s the difference between finishing 3rd with 80 points but winning it with 95

we are a comfortable 2nd or 3rd team at the moment, which whilst frustrating, seems about the right level

Utterly bobbins today but he’s been much better this season, hopefully he’s back on it on Tuesday.

To be honest the amount of times Phil does about 5 rolls a game i usually laugh and know he won’t actually be injured.

His corners and free kicks are becoming a problem.

Nunes and Nico O'Reilly can cross the ball better than him from range!

Midfielder yes, false 9 yes, #10 yes, winger yes, left back yes..

free kick specialist NO!

Needs to be taken off Free Kick/ Corner duty!

Exactly this and what I stated last night

People on BM obsessed in thinking because he’s “one of ours” he’s got to be in the Silva Kev Yaya bracket well he isn’t never has been never will be

But he is very good and a valued squad player always has been and hopefully will continue to be and on that point he is over utilised by Pep
Foden was at his most effective when Pep was nursing him into the first team set up and managing his game time mainly due to his age, now it needs to be managed because of his ability to start a game take it by the scruff of the neck and impose himself etc etc he doesn’t do this far better yesterday would have been to have him as an option to come on …. Incidentally exactly how he will be used by England
