Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I’d rather look at Haaland’s fluffed chance early doors, Haaland’s shot straight at the keeper, Foden’s crap shot wide when half the goal was wide open for him, Foden’s shit control for that penalty incident to even happen when he was wide open in the box and a good first touch would have given him a chance to score… with us missing so many sitters today and 5 of our last 12 penalties, I don’t have much trust that we’d have scored the penalty had it been given anyway.

If we’re relying on referees after the amount of sitters we missed today, then we’re in trouble.
It was a missed chances game today. Both sides had numerous ones to score.

We scored less than them, sadly.

The offside decision did change how the last section of the game was played out, however.

The impact was too low for a straight red card. Yellow and penalty for me.

It’ll be interesting to see the fall out of the offside still as Dias doesn’t jump until after Woltermade has headed the ball, suggesting that they’ve used the wrong still to determine offside.
The fall out from the offside will be the square root of fuck all mate.

We’re relying on the officials to not fucking cheat us! Talking about our missed chances is whataboutery.

Didn't realise height was a factor? So, a broken ankle rather than a broken leg? If Fodens leg was planted it would be shin height.

He's jumped to challenge, both feet in the air, totally out of control, endangering an opponent. Red card all day long.

It absolutely is. Below the ankle contact is deemed far less dangerous than over the ankle contact.

When the contact hits on Foden, most of the contact is on the foot and ankle. The defender’s foot is on the floor too.

It’s not ticking the boxes for a straight red.

It’s the same as we were telling Liverpool fans two weeks ago; play better and create more chances to score from and that disallowed goal isn’t an issue. But they didn’t play better, they didn’t create more chances to score from and they lost so tough shit for them.

If we put the ball in the net from the multitude of piss easy chances we had, nobody remembers who the referee was, never mind what he did. But we didn’t, so it’s tough shit for us. Nobody to blame but ourselves.

Don't need red lines or dots to come to the conclusion that this challenge was late, studs up, straight legged, wreckless, out of control, with force. Ticks all the boxes for a straight red.

Deemed not enough contact by VAR.

Far worse than the Van Dick decision by a country fucking mile.
He touched the ball first. Kompany had many tackles like this. I felt confused about the incident and I have not a clue what the rules are anymore. I don't think we should be blaming the result on the officiating, more so we should be looking to take no prisoners in our next game.

If we’re 5-0 up, “debatable” official’s decisions aren’t a factor and they’d then be whataboutery.

These things just hurt more when they affect results.
He was replying to a post about the non penalty (which along with the bollocks offside decision were crucial in a close game) so the missed chances comments were whataboutery

Tough away game. Would’ve been nice to come away with a point.

Halaand and Foden had great chances which could’ve have put us up early, but so did they and The Don made some big so that kind of cancels out. I feel like the Haaland should’ve put the first chance away and it would have changed the complexion of the game dramatically.

But…. And there is a but.

The kicked us all over the park from the first whistle. Doku, Foden, Cherki all getting raking, dirty challenges all within the first 20 minutes. No protection from the referee, especially on the Foden foul in the box which was a clear pen, and Phil carried that knock all through the rest of the game.

And the fucking prick Tonali, kicking our players and then falling and rolling all over the ground with the slightest touch in the last 10 minutes. 1 yellow for them the entire game was a fucking joke.

Also the second goal for them is a clear offside, the rule states that an opposing players hand cannot keep you onside but what are rules for right.

A lot of games left, this season will be a roller coaster and I really don’t think Arsenal will run away with it. Injuries happen, PL is the toughest league in the world because you will get a test week in and week out so I still back us to push right until the end.

Fair enough. Decisions will never be 100% correct, and so assuming they will be means you may not win as many games as you’d like.

As long as there is a human element to refereeing decisions, there will be some that go your way and others that don’t.

How come?

He was off at the start of the attack

Off all the time during the attack

Off when the ball was played to him (by their player) and he missed.

I tried explaining it to my lad and gave up :-)
Exactly what I saw, same with the winner though, yet an AI sketch 10 mins later would prove what we saw with our own eyes was incorrect, with leaping salmon Dias playing him on

Smoke and mirrors, result manipulation
