My YouTube channel - Episode 50 (P26)

Are there any signs leading up to that bridge? It just appears seemingly. Only a new bridge but it looks the part doesn't it? Imagine having the financial clout to be able to afford your own private bridge to access your own land?

The Jail Branch river in Vermont got its name from the area it flows through, which was once the location of a jail in the town of Barre. The Jail Branch is a tributary of the Winooski River, and its modern significance is tied to the East Barre Dam, which was built in response to the 1927 flood to provide flood control for the surrounding areas.

I don't know how correct that information is because sometimes the internet lies more than Jurgen Klopps momma.
Wow where did you get that info from as I searched for ages looking!

I must have better internet than you, but seriously I can't take the credit AI can do that just nicely mate ;-)

Either way your "Jail" theory wasn't far off.
I just googled this!

No, there is no evidence of a jail in East Barre
, but there is a "Jail Branch" of the Winooski River, which likely caused confusion. The East Barre Dam, built to prevent flooding after 1927, is located on this "Jail Branch". The name of the waterway is a historical detail and not indicative of a former jail facility in East Barre.
  • The term "Jail Branch" refers to a waterway, not a former correctional facility.
  • The East Barre Dam was constructed on the Jail Branch of the Winooski River by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after the 1927 floods to help prevent future flooding.

Internet's fucked.

Wow thanks. Not heard of it, will see if I can get it on the fire stick
Googled the series and it seems it was filmed in Hamilton, Ontario in Canada.

The wife was the first to point it out because I was/am too gormless to have the responses to see it and say it.

Your bridge videos are in her psyche mate, something I myself have not been able to do in decades ;-)

Bloody French get everywhere, if it isn't hot air balloons it's towns.

That is some flood right there, the first surviving half bridge half boat that didn't cast its moorings.

As the GPC once famously said, "It could have killed him" namely that drop from the bank to the river bed.
Yes fortunately it was a low and soft landing. I was stood on the edge of the bank looking for a good way down and the earth crumbled below me and down I went!

Yes if those pictures weren’t on the bridge I wouldn’t have known about the flood. Next weeks bridge, a few miles from this one also has pictures on it of….. well, no spoilers……
Spent yesterday putting together episode 50 and the “look back” at the first 50 bridges add on that will accompany it. Going to be a good video!

Last night at the Brattleboro Community TV awards night, (the local town’s equivalent of the Oscars) I was very proud to receive the “Series Of The Year” award. Well chuffed indeed!
Here I am being presented with the award by the station’s director.

Well done Phil and richly deserved with all the time and effort you have put into these videos.

That countryside looked as English as you like, great introduction to it as you drove up.

Bit of a wind issue mate? ;-)

Ohhhh this one has a lot of paraphernalia in it, nice description of the sneaky donation by the bridge owner to the town. This bridge looks like it's perched more precariously on the abutments than the others?

Hahah lifting a bridge like that so they could do it up.
It's a bit easier getting to the bank than on the other occasions on recent videos.

Lot's of history contained in that bridge and plenty to read about it.

Thanks!
If you thought that was windy, you'll love this Sunday's 50th Episode!
It's at the highest elevated bridge in the State, 1,922 feet above sea level and the only bridge not in a valley. It is 772 feet higher than the 2nd highest bridge.
It is on a plain and built over a man made pond. You can see the Green mountains to the west and swivel round to view the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the east. Windy as fuck! I choose not to use the microphone purely as it takes every other sound out. I love to hear the water flowing past as I talk. It adds to what you are seeing. So I took a few videos with the wind blasting and played them back to myself and whilst the wind was very much there, it didn't drown my voice out, so it is a windy edition!
Because of its location, high up on a plain and not in a valley, it is one of the most photographed bridges offering pictures of both the sun rising and sunset - as a result I have 20 pictures in the "midway picture section', including these two!
