Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1985 - (page 203)

Sounding like the votes are in for a break over the holidays, which is a good thing.

The bigger question is who can do 1988? I know someone wanted '86 from me, surely there's one for two years after? I'd love to hear from someone who hasn't had a turn yet, but I also know Rob has a good Plan B option that doesn't require him to do back to back years after '87 either.
I've done two 80's years.

I'd have done '87 but Rob grabbed that so that he can wax lyrical about JCM again.

Mention of Sir Roderick has triggered me in relation to this year...

Has there ever been a more undeserving overshadowing of the original version of a song than Stewarts utterly crass rendition of Downtown Train?

In the context of Tom Waits Rain Dog album from this year, Downtown Train is a great song about missed chances, the indifference of the city to its damaged people, melancholy and desperate yearning. In Stewart's hands its a glossy romantic ballad with more than hint of self-satisfaction. It's more than just pish, it's an abomination.

@Saddleworth2 can you change my last pick to Tom Waits - Downtown Train as a protest vote, thank you.
Tell you what I’ll include both (seeing it’s you).

I aways thought it was a tap left running into a sink!

You're not very romantic, MES! Just listened to it again, on good cans.
Not a shadow of doubt. That is clouds wafted in across the Irish Sea, banked up against the west side of the Pennines, releasing their life-giving liquid on Manchester.
And Morrissey is staring out the window, mooning (yet again) over the one he can't have (yet another).

Come on, he’s sat at home on a Sunday evening ready for a bath, sprinkling in the Radox…….

With all respect and admiration to your poetry and intros, I wasn't thinking of you having done 5 (a fistful) already. I was noting the need for someone new perhaps. We'll see, plenty of time...

A week tomorrow for 1986 and cannot wait to get my teeth into that (clue)
It bites?
It’s my favourite year of my entire 62 I’ve lived. Going to enjoy taking a trip down memory lane….
You both better hope whoever is starting '86 isn't taking your song selections!

I do feel somewhat safe in saying there will be plenty of Thanksgiving leftover options for both of you if you are tuff enuff to get your teeth into it.

You dare nominate any from my all time favourite album and you are thread banned ha ha ha

You know me too well.

Looking at the line up of songs/albums from that year, and I'm having to restrain myself from doing an OB1 - i.e. bollocks to the rules, here's 25 songs :)

MES is the only dissenting voice shouting "get on with it!", so unless there are a few votes in his favour, 1987 will run for 3 weeks, and you have 1988 (unless any other volunteers step forward by the time I post my 1987 write-up).

Does that sound OK for a timeline?

I just hope to Live To Tell as The Final Countdown is upon us... I Can't Wait.

Ah...Europe, the only band ever to make Bon Jovi seem palatable :-) As for that last one, I'm seem to remember the singer had incredibly long arms.

Lol, well I'll be camping out overnight before the playlist doors open so I can rush in and nominate track 3 and if the moderator knife wants to slit me then so be it. There could be a lot of reminiscing about GMEX next year.

My reply was more football related - I’m against the winter break! Happy for one here though :)

And Salford Uni the next day. Track three is fine, no ban for that one!
