Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

kind of weird how even though its only two games, the vibe has completely changed from after that liverpool game. things suddenly seem bleak. team seems very very weak all of a sudden. at the back in particular we're back to scary times.
Because he tinkered again . He can’t just leave things alone and ten fucking changes is a disgrace and it will probably kill our confidence and really set us back . We are not really that far infront from last season and without haalands goals we’d be fucked . It isn’t working

Problem is that he hasn’t been tinkering enough, which then leads him to make wholesale changes to try and give guys game time. He has ten players (12 if you include Rodri and Kovacic) not playing regularly, which means we now have people on here talking about a first eleven and a second eleven.

You are not bigger than the game.
You are not bigger than the club.
You are not bigger than the fans who came in huge numbers, some of them from faraway countries, spending their hard-earned money on flights and tickets, just so you could try to prove you know better than everyone else while looking down on them, on your opponent, and on the competition itself.
You wanted rotation because of the workload? Bring on three or four new players and make a substitution around the 60th minute to give the players some rest. You don’t come up with ten changes in a Champions League match like this.

There’s a very real chance that because of it, we’ll now have two more playoff games, and who knows who we’ll face or whether we’ll even make it through.
Arrogant.

This is Wenger esque now from Pep, slow turgid football that lacks end product, instead it's sideways and backwards. With the only bright spark being Haaland. Last season and now this season its the same slow football same fragility in midfield, same inconsistent tactics and game management.
Disagree about the football. Last few weeks it’s been much better to watch and quicker. We were too open at Newcastle and that’s probably on Pep for not changing it during the game. We still played some decent stuff at times in a tough away game and created plenty.

Last night was no surprise after him inexplicably picking such a poor side with far too many changes. At least he won’t be doing that again!

The inability to rotate cost us very dearly last season.
Fans here repeatedly spoke of how our injuries were caused by playing the same team week in and week out.
We must rotate. We cannot play this season without it.
We are in transition and need to focus on the PL to ensure that we qualify for Europe.
We were poor last night and there is no getting away from it.
We should probably have changed three or four, and then brought off another three or four during the game.
I won't be alone in thinking that we should have won the match anyway, even with that starting lineup.
Let's see what Saturday brings when we are at full strength.

Of course we need to rotate but not last night 4 days before Leeds and a win would’ve basically guaranteed top 8

There’s no turning this around with the squad we have sad ending to a wonderful career at city but it’s time he went. Nobody would’ve wanting him to go at the end of 4 in a row but in hindsight that was the best time to go.

and who could replace him ?

Andoni Iraola has no track record with big clubs
Fabregas ? he is part owner of Como
Kompany will not leave Bayern yet
Arteta won't come to City
Alonso, maybe, he still need to be fired first
Amorim - he was my first choice before he went to Manure, now he's stock has plumeted
Nagelsmann is a shout, but that depends on how WC will be going
Luis Enrique does not sense to me - older than Pep and won't be long term appointment

i'd back Pep

We will all back him but he will not win us another title or a champions league and end of the day isn’t that what we need from our manager . We all love pep and another coach will never win what he has done for us. But this is not the same city anymore and as says earlier Haalands goals have masked how poor we really are and how bad our recruitment has been .

Some believe it’s as simple as just replacing the manager. Pep goes, the new guy comes in with fresh ideas and all of a sudden this shower of shite become world-beaters again. It may happen but it could also get worse instead.

What if the best manager of all time, is getting the most possible out of this lot? The majority recognise that we have bought some fucking woeful players in the recent years and maybe, just maybe, CL qualification is the absolute ceiling for us with this squad.

Any new manager will be at least one level below Pep. I would rather we keep him and the club stop expecting him to work miracles with absolute shite. Stop buying bang-average players from middling PL clubs. Stop buying guys who’ve had one decent season, in a shite Euro league. Stop fucking penny-pinching by continually buying kids, who may or may not come good in 5 years. Instead, spend big money for the present, while you’ve got the best manager in the world to lead them.

We are currently on the exact same path we have seen from other clubs who had a period of dominance. Carry on like this and we are going from perennial winners, to that City team of the Pep era was some team.

I’m not convinced about that.

Trafford, RAN and Khusanov - proven absolutely nothing at this level.
Stones and Ake - both finished.
Reijnders and Rico - both shite.
Bobb and Sav - Consistently produce nothing.

There was nothing unusual about the individual performances out there tonight. They played exactly as they had previously. Good teams can carry 1 or 2 players. No team can carry 8 or 9.

Pep was mental for starting that team last night but Bayer had 9 players out injured or suspended. As wrong as Pep was, those players also let him down.

Pep should be in the boss's office this morning to explain what the fuck he was thinking.
What boss? There are no bosses at City, they all work for the City Football Group, rather than for this football club.

The bosses are probably all more interested in how the New York stadium is coming along or which club from the Mongolian fourth division were going to bring into the CFG next.

Thinking about last night now that I've finally warmed up and had a brew two things strike me that were missing .

Guts and football intelligence . You simply can't put a team out at this level without any proven leaders, especially an untested second eleven . We have been spoilt rotten with Kompany , YaYa , KDB and Walker but no one last night seemed to have any fire in the belly or fight .

And not an imaginative thought either . In the first half Reijnders was a free floating ten making good runs into space, but noone looked up to play a ball through to him . Ok, he was leaving huge gaps in midfield but we should have started Foden instead of Lewis who is a safety first squad player .

Being kind you could say they haven't ever played together but I sure as hell know that playing it out to the wings again and again only for the move to dwindle into nothing at all is going to get us nowhere . Most average wingers needs space and are best in transition .That's Bobb and Savinho. Average . Doku is better but has only blossomed by coming inside this season creating havoc in the channels . Stones played one long ball all game and that was after ninety minutes . Marmoush is a runner and got zero service .Zero .

Think lads , think . Be braver . That was a young side and they should be running their arses off, breaking fast in transition not doing the zimmer sideways shuffle advancing up the pitch with all the threat of a tortoise with dementia.

Too many players in this squad who are inconsistent or below the level required for a title fighting team. That’s what’s showing more and more.

Whenever one of the first eleven come off, the level drops. When we’ve won games this season when the subs happen you see the level drops, the quality of the squad is poor.

That’s not on Pep but recruitment. Pep can be stubborn and do ridiculous things but he has to make do with the players he’s given and a few are not at the level required and some are just inconsistent.

i think it was shape and positional awareness that was very damaging last night. Leverkusen shut us down from the top of the pitch all the way back to their box, admittedly we made it a bit easier for them but they did it all night. Conversely, they played out from defense to wingers or central midfields very easily and repeatedly, with our lads stood miles off them. Off the ball we were as bad as you see a Pep team.
