14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Fine in possession but he needs the recovery pace behind him as the gap between defence and midfield was too great. That he stayed on for the entirety shows how desperately short we are in that area.

I'm in SS3 so hard to judge the disconnect between midfield and defence but it felt like he had far too much space to cover with Lewis and Reijnders missing in action . It was an open invitation to Leverkusen every time . He's a good player but not a miracle worker . And , I agree , we don't have a plan B as Rodri remains a fragile possibility ....

He has absolutely ZERO help in midfield. Lewis and Reijnders offered nothing. City needs to sign different midfield profiles because Nico is struggling alone. He needs top athlete alongside him.

Nico was hung out to dry in that first half by Pep last night. It was obvious after about 10 minutes that he was having to do the whole midfield, and Pep is up and down on the bench waving his arms about.

Message to Pep, if it's not fucking working, do something about it, everyone could see that Bobb, Reijnders, and Lewis were out of their depth after 10 minutes, and that was with Leverkusen doing nothing of note themselves.

must of been run ragged playing for spain oh hang on hard work on beach

Right, not sure what you are not getting but you clearly want to persist with stating he didn't play in the international break. Great stuff. Good insight.

I genuinely can’t express how grateful I am for Nico. It’s painfully obvious that without him, we’d be in a world of trouble right now. He’s one of the pillars of this team, carrying an unbelievable workload, and yet he’s not going to get the rest he desperately needs. We’re repeating the same mistake we made with Rodders — running a key player into the ground because we refuse to reinforce properly.

The next transfer window cannot be a cosmetic fix. We urgently need real physical profiles, players who bring strength, intensity, and presence, the exact qualities our soft underbelly has been crying out for. Until we address that, we’re going to keep leaning on Nico far more than is sustainable.
