Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Did I say Pep has "lost it"? No.

Feel free anytime to call me a moron to my face though and see how it ends for you...No need for remarks like that you clown.

I'm pretty sure Pep would be involved in the recruitment of players and not just all down to Hugo Viana or Txiki beforehand.

There wouldn’t be any need for violence either. Says everything about you.

The plan to rest 10 players was strange for Pep in a Champions League game
The method in his plan may have been to see a reaction from the squad players and a take note performances of key players fell well short, Ake Stones Khusanov Marmoush Aït-Nouri Lewis all looked well off the pace and slow and leggy

I don't think anyone could say they should be playing week in week out over the starting 11 at Newcastle
It wasn't fair on the 10 players and it wasn't fair to the paying fans who attended. That said, Pep has won a shit load of cups for us (and also lost a good few with baffling selections mostly in the CL) so perhaps he has a lot of good will in the bank.

I think Pep genuinely feels bad about a lack of game time certain players have been getting this season, probably thought he could get away with giving them a runout in this game, with the cavalry to call on if it went tits up.

Unfortunately the players let him down, not deliberately of course, but they just weren't good enough to take care of a decent, well organised team.

Maybe Pep was asking too much of them, but he gave them an opportunity to impress and most of them blew it.

Yes, it's a bummer for the fans, but Pep has delivered more for them than any previous manager in the club's history, so has earned the right to make a decision even if it backfires.

Lesson learned, we move on.

Agree with every word mate.

Yeah I respect and applaud every City supporter who travels a long distance but I don't think it makes them more loyal, or gives them a right to be more upset from last night's performance

However we can all question our own sanity as I did last night

Just had a quick check and City have played 89 European games at the Etihad, 7 of which were behind closed doors due to COVID

82/82 for me but for every 4-0 v Real Madrid there's been a dead rubber against Basel or Steau Bucharest, or a bizarre team selection v Leverkusen, (who as we both know are no mugs)

I thought our home record was quite strong, but we've actually drawn 16 and lost 11

The clubs probably prefer the new CL Format, but after PSG's progress last season, I can see more and more teams resting their best players in the knowledge that they'll still qualify for at least the play off round.

It's up to each and every one of us whether we bother attending

Lesson learned and no more Pep brain-farts?
Yeah, right!

A number of posters in this thread feeling sorry for themselves because they travelled or paid money for hotels and trains. The simple solution is to not support a team who play in a different city or if you're from Manchester, don't move away. They deserve no more credit for attending last night than the lad who can see Mary D's from his kitchen window.

Lol really ?

Pre-covid we would do cl matches, tickets from around 28 to 45 quid and a double room at premier inn around 20 quid.
Now premier inn over a 100quid as for tickets I havent a clue I simple can't afford the premier inn prices !

I was moved away from Manchester in 1966, I have a 3 mates all around my age but all have lived in kent for 60 plus years. We have travelled up and down the country for decades following City. The lad who lives opposite Mary D's wont be paying what we pay to attend the Etihad.

We miss the atmosphere of the 'old' days dont enjoying the lack of atmosphere, the half n half, the tourists, can't get seats together.
We have done our fair share of following City over the decades.

Totally this. We've lost our way, we're just a bit mediocre? I fear we will become a bit like Chelsea have been these past 10-years, sort of 'thereabouts' without ever really being 'in it'? Maybe this is inevitable after such a period of sustained success but the drop-off in squad quality & depth and performance is quite staggering.
Current World Club champions, CL winners in 2021, PL winners in 2017 (I think) and have reached a few FA Cup finals as well. It's not four in a row or centurions or domestic treble winners, but it's not exactly bad is it?

What I can never understand with Peps teams in particularly is that it's rarely one or two players who don't play well. For example, if Savinho and Bobb have poor games then others make up for it it. However, we're either amazing or really poor and I can't think of anyone last night who put in a good performance. Every player looked slow, unfit and lethargic and I can o lynpuy that down to tactics - don't put the effort in to win.

I don't know hy he fielded that team, it looked a shocker when I saw it and rather than it being "one shot, one goal" he made it "two shots, two goals".

It was a winnable game that and one which would've pretty much made sure we would finish top 8. As it stands he will have to play stronger teams versus the others.

Very poor especially after the dire show v Newcastle.

Some really good points in there. It's a bummer we lost and also didn't play well. I do honestly think that something like last night can be more miserable if you've shelled out a whack, travelled for hours, took time off work etc.

It is when you look at how much they've spent. 2.78 billion in the last ten years and they were one pep brain fart from winning almost nowt.

Agree and ditto for Fulham and Sunderland
Nothing less than 10 points from those 3 games for me after the last 2 half arsed performances ;-)

(I say that in jest but in relation to something I was to ask about.
Last week on SSN I was glancing at the league tables from here there and everywhere as they ran through the news stories as they do.
Womens league cup Groups. Some teams had played 2, but had 5 points!
I'm no Manuel Akanji as far as maths goes but even I couldn't figure it out.
I was curious, but not enough to actually look it up).

From newsnow manchester city

Man City slaughtered for not selling ‘fraud’ who’s ‘painful for fans to watch’. Teamtalk

Think about it.
