OFFICIAL : Christmas 2025 thread

Why is it called the twelve days of Christmas? It’s ridiculous to start putting decorations up in mid November
They are the days between Christmas Day to Epiphany (Jan 6th). Many people put them up on the first Sunday of Advent (which is the 30th November this year I think) and take them down on Jan 6th. Others leave them up until Candlemass on Feb 2nd!

Personally I always put them up on the 1st December and take them down on 5th/6th January.

Here in the Czech Republic it's quite common for people to put their trees up and decorate their flats/houses on the 23rd or 24th of December (Christmas is actually celebrated on the evening of the 24th here) and take them down on 5th/6th January, which seems like a very short time to get enjoyment after all the effort involved. There again most people have real Christmas tress so they probably wouldn't last much longer anyway!

Probably more information than anyone wanted or needed but there you go.

I recall being back in England in 2017. Went in a card shop for a friend's birthday card. Couldn't believe there was a section of Christmas cards already. My friends birthday is 29th of Aug!

Something I like about living in the US is Christmas isn't in the conversation for people until after Thanksgiving weekend.

Thursday this week isn't it?

The farm here, where I get my turkey from, won't let me place an order until after Thanksgiving. Probably waiting to see how many they have left so they can decide how much they can afford to charge us!
Yes, it’s this Thursday. Didn’t know they did Thanksgiving in Czech Land :)

I'm already balls deep with playing Christmas songs.
Been a bit of a shite year personally so I'm all in with playing them early.
Ho ho ho.

This. Been reflecting on 2025 with the wife this evening and it’s been a challenging one for various reasons! Tree going up this Friday , which is a week earlier than normal for that reason.

Czechs don't but plenty of Americans living here.

It's a bloody good job Czechs and/or Ukrainians don't celebrate Thanksgiving actually, or there wouldn't be enough turkey left in the country for little old me for Christmas ;-)

My wife phoned me from a shopping centre in Thailand today and I could hear Christmas music playing in the background the whole time and Christmas isn't even celebrated in Thailand!

Cash in a card is far more civilised and wish they'd done that with me back in the day. Utterly convinced my aunties and uncles are all burning in hell Right Now for gifting me Lego Airfix and jigsaws.

Why on Earth would you gift children presents that they had to piss around with and build for themselves? I also hated painting by numbers, mechano sets and plastercine in equal measure.
Lazy little fucker!!

I say it every year. From 18th December I’m going to eat really healthy, hardly any booze and have early nights so that Christmas dinner is enjoyed heartburn free, the booze is a treat and I am on top, top form…

It never fucking happens.
