4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

been the worst of the summer signings...

in the one position we needed for the player to really show up....and he has flopped big time...

Hopefully comes good BUT it will need a huge change in physical approach from him....he lacks physicality, bravery and toughness and can someone of his age change such core requirements at his age?

He was bought has a big ish money, experienced, plug and play player - but he’s now been dropped

Less a good start, one of them being in a friendly, he’s been a big let down. I don’t want to lose faith but he needs to pull his finger out

He needs to find a home on the field and a role of his own. He was a key man in Milan, but he’s a bit part player because Nico is the DM and Bernardo has to play, so that leaves 1 more midfielder…Foden? Cherki? Reijnders?

He loses out in that maths, but once Bernie is gone…

I see him as a big, fast, box to box midfielder who can carry the ball, make up ground, and put in a very tidy shot. Too bad our midfielders are supposed to play shuttle passes across midfield, unless you’re the one given free rein in the pocket, which he isn’t.

He looks like a Rolls Royce player who is being fed low octane fuel and driven by a kid learning to drive! He needs a little run in the team, with Bernie being given the second DM roving role, and TR given a midfield slot.

Agreed. Some time and some experimentation and he'll come good.

Its mad, after the CWC and first game of the season he was being hailed as one of the best midfielders in the world and was an absolute star. Now he looks like he'd struggle to get a game for my old sunday league team never mind City.

Have to admit I called it way wrong on this signing after the Wolves game.

Needs to get a grip on his physicality. Even a German side is dispossessing him by barging into his back.

Maybe a bit early, but his story reminds me a bit of Nunes'...

Tijji needs to get more serious, more aggressive, and arriving at the box he needs to trust his qualities and go for goal.
The next confidence story. We have several. Defo a scouting issue...

Can we replace the happy smile by a gritty face please? Thanks.

I really think his start is being underrated because of the last couple of weeks.

He started brilliantly at Wolves and was then ticking over quite nicely as part of the team in the weeks after, slotting in and doing okay, delivering some good performances here and there. But since that October international break he's been in and out of the side and it's affected his form a bit.

I still think he'll finish the season with 7-10 goals and about 10-15 assists, which is more than acceptable for a CM who's been played all over the place (even ending up at RB the other night). He's been unlucky in front of goal in quite a few games. More to the point, he's still adjusting to his first season in England and to being in a Pep side.

He's not got much of a clue defensively but that can get better.

I just wonder whether a lot of these new players aren't settling here well. One of the new signings should be standing out by now but the sad fact is that none of them are showing much at all. Last January and this summer's signings are looking like a big mistake as it stands, the contribution from them all has been minimal

Most of them are projects though, which in my opinion is the route we should never have gone down. We should have stuck with what made us successful initially by signing mostly ready made. Even the project players we bought in the past were already relatively established in some regard and had made an impact at CL level or were voted best young player in their league and were becoming established at international level.

Only Reijnders at 27 is established, came in as the best midfielder in Italy last year and of whom I think we should be expecting the most of and has every right to be expecting the criticism he is currently getting.

Nico G is proving he will be a very capable back up number 6, albeit I don't think he is the level to win us titles as the main number 6 if Rodri was to leave.

Cherki has been arguably our best creative player this season alongside Doku. We look a better team with him in it and if anything I would argie Foden and Bernardo have been for the most part ghosting most games.

The big questions for me are the Khusanov and Reis signings. Big money on both players and neither look ready to be consistent players in the team. They look Carabao/ FA Cup game level and that's it.

Reijnders & Marmoush are in their prime not projects, same with Gonzalez all bought for big-ish money, they have to hit the ground running.

I did say Reijnders is the one who has no excuse.

I forgot about Marmoush, I agree.

Gonzales is proving to be for the money a decent back up to Rodri.

If we wanted a Rodri replacement we would be paying the £100m for Caicedo or Rice, but for £60m you are only getting a back up.

I think he needs an arm round the shoulder. There’s a player in there for the 10 or the 8. Unfortunately theres players ahead of him for those positions atm. His confidence looks shot. Even though he’s always smiling!

Exactly my thoughts.

Last season when the league was gone I switched my attention to Serie A.

He was outstanding every time I watched him.

Looks like the PL is a step up too much for him
