The staff should get it right first time but we can't criticise service in your eyes.

They wouldn’t cope. It’s a myth that the atmosphere was always great at Maine Road. It was great for big games. The atmosphere was shit at most clubs during the 80s and 90s apart from the big games. The funniest comments are from non match goers who say the crowd sounded quiet on the TV.

You think the way that 1894 have publicly denounced NSL2 has contributed to the new stand not living up to its full potential, even though the new stand is far from completion.

That’s the best one so far. I will give you that.

So, exactly when do the club come into this for you and others?

1. From the initial fan consultation years ago?
2. From the PA which showed everything about the new North stand years ago?
3. From the non existing engagement between the club and the fans over NSL2 since the initial and basic fan consultation, years ago?
4. Anything else?

What about the club? What exactly have the club done to sell NSL2 to the fans as an atmospheric home end, bar announcing 3000 rail seats, and what else? The answer to that question is absolutely nothing of note.

Here’s an idea. Why don’t you and others criticising 1894 on BM approach the club yourselves, try and engage with the club, and see how far you get with the club.

I’d actually argue that if it wasn’t for 1894’s input we’d be left with a stand that will be even less conducive to creating an atmosphere. In particular, there would be ZERO safe standing spaces, not 3000.

But yeah, let’s blame 1894 rather than the club. After all, the club wanted 7000 safe standing spaces in the new North Stand but those 1894 knobheads pushed back and told them to cap it at 3000!

Nobody is claiming that 1894 is single-handedly causing NSL2 to underperform. The point is that public negativity from the group that has the biggest influence on the atmosphere in the stadium does have an impact, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. It isn’t the sole reason, but it’s part of the wider picture.

And yes, the club absolutely deserves criticism:

- The original consultation was vague and half-hearted.
- The presentations told us almost nothing practical.
- Communication since then has been non-existent.
- There’s been no real selling of the vision for a home end, no active engagement, no plan for how NSL2 will function on matchdays.

All of that is on the club, and nobody is excusing it.

But acknowledging that doesn’t mean 1894 are above scrutiny. They’re a prominent fan group whose statements do shape perceptions. When they publicly distance themselves from NSL2 before it’s even launched, that influences fans who might otherwise have given it a chance.

This isn’t “either blame the club or blame 1894.” There’s room for both conversations.

As for “go and speak to the club yourselves”, plenty of fans have tried. Many have emailed the club, spoken to Supporter Services, asked questions at meetings, and gotten nowhere. That’s exactly why people expected more constructive leadership from groups like 1894, even if the club has made it difficult.

Mate, I love counting seats with you but 1894 have done as much as they possibly can and it’s now 14 months since we said our door is still open for the club to negotiate with us. Fact is that the ball has been in the club’s court since late September 2024. They’ve had the results of the 1894 members survey all that time, were urged to consult the existing ST holders in the North Stand about the plans (but didn’t), and despite the fact that 1894 don’t support the plans as they stand (based on the views of the overwhelming majority of our members and not because we’re just a bunch of arsey cunts) we’ve still offered to work with the club and help those vocal fans who want to relocate to the new stand.

That's the problem sometimes, especially at home.

I thought the first half yesterday was probably one of easiest 45 mins of football we have played in a while. We barely got out of 1st gear. Also probably the reason why we couldn't get going in the second half.

When the game is too easy and looks to have no jeopardy, its very difficult as fans to chant to it.

You just end up watching an waiting for us to score the 3rd, 4th or even 5th goal in a formality.

Also, when 3 up against a big side you like rubbing it in. If your 3 up against a Wolves at home, it's sort of standard practice in a way.

Of course mate, it's just debate and never personal as far as I'm concerned. We all want the same thing when all is said and done.

I hope you can understand why some fans feel frustrated by the way this has unfolded publicly. Not because 1894 have done nothing, you clearly have, but because once the club went quiet and dug their heels in, the whole thing basically turned into a standoff. And whether it’s fair or not, a visible group like 1894 inevitably shapes the tone of the conversation around NSL2.

In regards to the survey, were participants asked if "Despite the Clubs plans, would you still be interested in moving to the North Stand". I ask this because it seems to me that 1894 are interpreting 'Don't support the club's plans as they Stand' as 'Don't want to move to the stand'. Correct me if I'm wrong about this.

I truly believe that a successful North Stand would transform the atmosphere, and it frustrates me deeply that the opportunity is likely going to go to waste. 1894 have the reach to get people on board with it, regardless of the clubs plans. I hope we can make something work!
