Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

The subs are all making sense and not rocket science. You must manage Nico G’s game time as he is the sole CM we have for a long period. Doesn’t matter he is tired now or not. He must stay healthy. It is the single utmost important thing of this team for now.

Savinho is shite but he has fresher legs and was supposed to have a bit better control passing than Doku. We lost control/ stability in the game. The interception in our box in the dying minutes itself is worth the 30 minutes game time. We never have protection around the arc whole game.

How on earth did Arsenal not batter us at their place?

I suppose the only good thing compared to last year is that we aren't losing those games where we absolutely bottle it.
I thought they did. We were lucky to come away with a point at the Emirates in my opinion, although more because we just kept punting it out anywhere rather than trying to play out as opposed to them attacking us particularly effectively, but you always felt it was a matter of time before they scored that day.

The way Leverkusen defended the other night was the perfect example of how we should be doing it and had we done that at Arsenal I think we'd have won that and been top now, piling the pressure on Arsenal early.

I don't think it's so much the actual defending that's the problem but keep punting it out and giving the ball back to the opposition that's killing us. What happened to keeping the ball?

I wasn’t convinced before but our midfield is truly awful. Still!
Its not just our midfield though. It starts from the top. Haaland is lazy on the press, Doku chases after the ball has been passed to his man rather than start running to his man before the ball starts coming to him so he is under pressure at first touch. Once we cave in up top, their defenders simply bypass our forwards and then our defense drops off to avoid a ball over the top. Seeing as we are not playing our quickest central defender.

This creates even more space for the opposition to operate and pick their passes easily. We then funnel it to the sides qnd hope our fullbacks can stop their winger.

We succeed sometimes. Then other times we make mistakes even after succeeding. This too happens because we don't have well set repeatable patterns.

Our problems are deeper than individual players even though individual players can help.

I am a fan of Anderson, but the issue is larger than any individual player.

That was brilliant, until a point when it wasn’t. Unsure if we aren’t up to speed, running on empty, or too arrogant to understand that playing for City in the PL, the game is never over.

Really enjoyed it though, very happy with the 3 points a couple of new records. Especially happy for Erling.
City are missing Rodri and Kovacic and we have a lot of games ahead. If Pep had left Gonzalez on and he had got injured, Pep would have been pilloried, and rightly so.
