Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

I understand why Nico and Doku came off, we'd lost the central midfield (was Nico injured a bit?) and Doku was giving the ball away all night, despite his attacking threat. I would also have hooked Reijnders at this point.

Wouldn't have gone for John in the middle though, but i can see there were few options.

He is struggling to find the answer to Rodri and Kovacic leaving a massive hole in the middle of the team. Gonzales has really come through for him so far, but he’s being flogged to death.

If there is business to be done this January for the right player, it might be worth paying January prices and getting it sorted.

With Rodri not having re-upped his contract and being a free man at the end of next season, it would be imprudent to not purchase a complementary/replacement player.

Like many, I feel like the business done recently has yet to pay off, but we will not have the luxury of a DM that isn’t ready to go from the off.

I’d push the boat out for Anderson asap. He’d be both a strong complement and potential replacement, should we need one in short order.

Looking at the bench recently, and their performance against Leverkeusen, we really do not have the depth needed to compete on 4 fronts, given the imperatives to win silverware, and not just the Carabao & FA Cup!

I hope Pep has identified the players he thinks he needs and Viana has them on the hook already. The longer this goes on, the more desperate for the right pieces we may seem.

It’s also long past time we cleared some of the deadwood, too.

Would have been fine yesterday if the club had gotten him another DM once kova was out long term, had no options for that role once Nico had to come off following a kick in the bollocks and all the goals came from where a competent DM would have been

You are absolutely right in where the problem was.
I think Pep will learn from last night. Shoring up the midfield was key and in O'Reilly, Stones, and Cherki we could have done it and should have done it earlier, IMO. I am not sure we need additions: Ait-Nouri comes on, O'Reilly shifts across, Stones comes on for Bernardo, Cherki for Erling, and the game is over, IMO.

in the start of the season there was info that Kova would be out till October, so they were surely banking on it.

Lol it's not as easy as oh somebody is injured spend a shit load more money and get another one whilst he's out.

Problem with having the ball is all the halfwits on here start saying that we're boring and the football is boring. Get back to keeping the ball better and fuck the opinion that it's boring.
We’ve lost Ederson who was one of the key reasons why we were so dominant for years. The time was right for him to leave this summer, he didn’t look the same player for a year or so. But we replaced him with Donnarumma who is brilliant, just not a keeper who will transform us to being dominant again. That may be a bit harsh on Donnarumma, he hasn’t got a super team in front of him like Ederson had. Ederson was able to do his thing with the ball without worrying about facing shots on goal, we didn’t let teams have the ball. Ederson was the perfect keeper for the team we had.

Haters gonna hate.
Who would the pep out mardarses in this thread want instead?
Won't get anyone better than Guardiola imho. If you are fucked off with the style we play now what are you going to be like when the new guy comes in and it doesn't happen?
Too many entitled fans. Yes have your opinions but our manager is the best in the business. Once he is gone that's it, it's back to basics.

What I've noticed and don't know if anyone else has noticed, might be why Pep was so adamant in the post match press conference about CDM. But Peps entire tactics not just for this City team but his Barca , Bayern and some of the best City teams we've had treble/Centurion.

The number 6 is the most important postion on the pitch , the most important postion in his philosophy and tactics, without a very good 6 , Peps tactics of control fall apart. Busquets , Fernandinho, Rodri they keep control in the midfield.

You can see when Pep doesn't have a good number 6 we look vulnerable easy to break through and break down. The 6 postion in a Pep team controls everything in that midfield. Even though we had Kev and Gundo in the treble season Rodri controlled everything with his passes and tempo. Same with Fernandinho watched some old games and he controlled everything in that midfield.

From the start of playing out to launching attacks. The 6 is the playmaker and orchestrator. Right now Nico G is learning and he could become a very good number 6, but when he went off we lost all control. Or when he gets tired we lose control such as against Leeds.

I don't think it's Peps tactics I just think Peps number 6 is still learning and when it clicks all these defensive issues will go.

we need more than one fit, effective no 6 then.

I think Rodri would have been bypassed last night with that press and the ineffective, passive midfield around him

It's not just that. Periodically we've lost ball playing quality in every position in order to be more physical. Not only Donnarumma. Our CBs can't play the ball out of the back. Gvardiol is not Laporte. Also we miss Rodri. And playing with a striker doesn't involve in possession, so it's numerically one less player, so you need an extra man.

The team is struggling to play out of the back and keeping possession all season so far. Also we're defending in a medium block, no high pressing so it's harder to recover the ball.

But hey, haters wanted Pep change his style. Now they're enjoying.

Bollocks ,none of the 3 goals they scored happen if Rodri is on the pitch, even a not fit Rodri , his positional sense puts him where need needs to be to stop those shots, and then Pep is lauded for a emphatic win away at a tough ground
