Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

The second line is. Fulham scored goals that they wouldn’t have normally. One of those weird games. Credit to our team for closing it out. Appreciate that’s not the done thing on here.
But that shows that xG is a weird stat cause Fulham scored 4 goals when their xG was only 0.9.

It's the other stats that are not great viewing imo

Lack of control and other sides are popping shots at our goal.

Attack wise we are pretty good but defensively and in the midfield we are miles off challenging.

It needs massive improvement and am not sure we capable in resolving it (hope I am wrong)

He did not take the DM and replaced him with Savinho

He replaced him with Stones.

He replaced Doku with Savinho. At least be honest

I know you are correct

What i meant in that statement is the sub for Stones for Nico wasn't right as well as he isn't a proper DM

If you are putting on Stones I would prefer him and Nico on as well to tighten up.

Plus the threat of Doku is gone and most of us knew Savinho isn't going to do much (unlucky with the cross to Haaland though)

The real issue is being able to comfortably posses and pass the ball around to kill time or depress the opposition. Our ability to do this has significantly degraded

Our movements off the ball is generally poor and we now carry many players who arent crisp passers of the ball. A majority of our current players.
It is easier to count players who are at average or above standard of 5 years ago..

Phil, Gonzalez, Rico, Cherki... That's the list. Everyone else is below standards for 5/6 years ago. Rodri and Kova too. But they currently dont count.

Everyone else is slightly below average with the bsll due to technique, structure or chemistry (Stones , O'Reilly, Dias, Nunez, Tijanni,, Bernardo, Bobb)

Or clearly below average (Gvardiol, Savio, Doku, Haaland, Marmoush, Ake, Khusanov, Donna,) Becoming a consistent quick passing possession team is highly unlikely.

We are either a counter attacking team or a sluggish slow conservative passing team.

The former is a better choice considering our personnel. We just have to increase on ball pressure and defending from the top.
I will give this some thought. My initial ones are that we are not too far away.

I was amazed last night how Fulham (as did Leeds) didn’t put a press on us as we played out in the first half. When we went 3-0 as opppsed to 2-0 I thought they can’t catch that but also noted they put a press on and started controlling the game and we list the possession stats in fact thats two halves on the trot we’ve experienced what it’s like to play AGAINST Manchester City ffs in fact to some degree it now happens every game
Surely Pep can see this and be able to set us up differently at half time if only to confuse the opposition
Haaland up front on his own doesn’t work for starters not suggesting subbing him but I’d coach him to play a deeper role in fact like Mr Punch used to do at Spuds that alone would fuck oppositions two CBs up for starters and at the same time fill that fuckin enormous gap that appears every second half through our midfield

Three points and five goals, fucking fantastic!

But wtf is wrong with us, letting them almost snatch a point from 5-1 down? Concentration? Fitness?

Taking off your only DM and putting on Savinho (who has been very poor and keeps losing the ball) i think you are asking for trouble imo

The whole second half was a mess defensively so at least of me you keep your DM on until Fulham couldn't come back. There are not enough ball winners in this side

One of pep’s big thing is he over trusts players after letting him down continually! Pep must see something in stones and Silva that I don’t at the moment yes if we have 60%+ possession those two are great without the ball they are a massive liability like a few others! They can’t tackle they don’t win one on ones! We need defenders who get out and try to tackle win the ball not back up back up till a shot or cross happens!

You're right this team lacks bite

The whole team is extremely passive and never win balls

Think it’s quite obvious this team won’t win the league not unless we make some crazy signing in January which is unlikely.

You can’t concede 6 goals in 2 games and seriously challenge.

ooo i dunno, in 23/24 we conceded 4 at Chelsea, 1 against Liverpool and 3 against Spurs consecutively. All turned alright in the end ;)

I think we need to view these last 2 games as getting the points while playing 'erratically'. Our version of grinding out results.

Not really. Haven't seen any real moaning about our possession tbh. Maybe a bit about the lack of an end product at times but that's about it.

Then you weren't looking. Plenty over the past 3 years moaning at how boring it was to watch City and something needed to change. Plenty wanting Pep to leave because of it.

Khusanov was hands down our best defender up until his injury.

100% Khusanov is a better option than Nunes at right back.

All that a side, we shouldn't even be discussing Nunes, Rico or Khusanov as who gets the nod, the club should have signed a proper right back and not fucked about.
It’s hard to believe how we haven’t managed to identify a proper full back since walker.

Nunes is pathetic, Ait Nouri was a shocking buy, I’m not confident we are even in the market for one come Jan.

Love the optimism!

I’m afraid Stones is not good enough anymore, slow and poor distribution
Agree sadly. I think Pep now knows (especially after last chumps leagye defeat) that outside our first 11 were pretty dire. You beed 20 players now all around first 11 standard. Were miles off. So we used to play 5 or 6 "second string' players v bottom 7 or 8 clubs allowing for rest. We cant do that now. I think Pep may prioritise chumps league going forward.. kids playing in domestic cups..and a bit of a see where we are early March re league push but an eye on not letting top four get out of sight.. then he either toddles off or aggressively buys cover for dm.. a rb and ch... rodri could be our colun bell sadly
